Most cities this would be the biggest and most imposing tower under construction, I love how it goes almost unnoticed by most new yorkers, I've been away from my beloved city for a year and a half now, and this area of midtown west has changed so much! But if I asked my friends in the (non skyscraper geeks) I bet they would have noticed that there's at 230m skyscraper going up, I love NYC!

Just under construction? Not cities, in most countries it would be the tallest.

Look at all the European, African, South American, and island countries without major cities with skylines, or just major cities in some cases . It would be the tallest in most countries comfortably.

The first pages of threads usually have the best renderings.

Mexico City's (one of the largest cities in the world) tallest building is 15 feet shorter than this building.

That is because those cities have more space to build. Manhattan is very dense.

Why does the building restrict itself to manhattan! It's so dense but why? It's not like they're using all of manhattan. The never build anything up north and why dont they build in any of te boroughs? I mean I know they're is huge growth in Brooklyn but they don't bud there really. Why manhattan?

..hasn't this something to do with the condition of the ground? I've read something about that, why skyscrapers are only built in midtown and lower manhattan..because the ground is kind of 'too weak'..but I could be wrong..

Land values.

That is wrong. It's a myth that skyscrapers are only built in Midtown and Downtown because of the relatively shallow depth to bedrock. Again, early on it had to do with land values, and later on it was a combination of proximity to mass transit centers (Penn Station and Grand Central) and zoning regulations.

Apparently, you can build skyscrapers in between midtown and downtown, it's just a bad and pointless idea.

Why would it be bad and pointless?

People want to build new skyscrapers as close to the cluster as possible; it makes business easier. Building in the middle of a bunch of low rises would not be worth it. At least, that's one of the reasons.

Also I think new yorks skyline wouldn't be as special as if it was united as one rather than having to very different skylines. Its what makes new York different.

Not really, you can't build between Midtown and Lower Manhattan because of zoning regulations. If developers could build 40 stories buildings in Soho or the Greenwich Village they would, but they can't because of zoning regulations, which basically dictate high tall one can build.

The city concentrates high rise construction in Midtown and Lower Manhattan because those two areas have the best mass transit infrastructure. It has nothing to do with, let's build our office building there because that's where everyone else built theres.
