Incredible design. In my opinion, is better now. And we have to change the height of the topic to 753 feet / 229 meters.

Article by The Real Deal

http://therealdeal.com/newyork/artic...hbound-feeling

Quote:
Fortunately, the one such structure that used to inhabit 1717 Broadway, at the northwest corner of 54th Street, has been razed, and in its stead a new 752-foot Marriott is scheduled to rise, designed by Nobutaka Ashihara and developed by the hotel chain together with Granite Broadway Development. According to the news accounts, the hotel, which is expected to have 68 stories and be completed in 2013, will contain two hotels related to the Marriott chain, a 378-room Courtyard and a 261-room Residence Inn by Marriott.

My article on the building with all the info,

http://newyorkyimby.blogspot.com/201...-and-54th.html

Quote:
The pace of construction has picked up considerably in Midtown, with several new projects now approved or actually getting built. Among these new buildings will be 1715 Broadway, which will be the tallest building solely used as a hotel in New York upon completion. Located on the corner of 54th Street and Broadway, the new hotels (two will occupy the building) promise to bring added vibrancy to an already active neighborhood.
And a picture I took today,

I am looking forward to seeing this one rise. From the renders it looks like a very modern and sleek building.

Keep us up to date!

I took the first photo on Friday or Saturday, and props to pcrail for posting the second photo which is from yesterday, the 16th, in NY Projects and Developments thread.

As you can see it looks like this is rapidly coming together, with actual construction probably starting this week. And for anyone interested/unfamiliar with Manhattan this project and 250 W 55th St, are on the same block, just separated by a couple of small buildings.

Also, can this thread get moved?

This is U/C, took this a couple of hours ago. Sorry for the bad quality, took it with my iPhone, but you can clearly see that it's 1 floor above street level.

Yeah, it's a pretty nondescript render but yeah that's what's being built.

This should be moved as well.

wow! Didn't even know about this one.

What are the other high-rises in active construction in Midtown? I can only think of Carnegie 57, Gem Tower and 432 Park Ave (foundation work). Anyone know of others?

Yeah about a block from th Gem Tower is 131 45th St, which is U/C as well and will be 600 feet. Then 250 W 55th is literally on the same block as this, and off the top of my head will around 550 feet or 582 I want to say. I'd give you links but I'm on my phone, And those are just the buildings north of 550 feet, anything shorter in midtown isn't worth tracking because it won't be noticeable and typically there a handful of smaller projects that are just too numerous to count:

There’s also 555 W 53rd St (Mercedes House; 29-story residential) that’s under construction. Not a very tall building, but will be noticeable as it is in a low-rise part of Hell’s Kitchen.

Another project in Midtown is a hotel at approximately 215 W 34th St, a low-rise but will be noticeable along a busy two-way street.
