The biggest and most famous park in Craiova Romania is "Nicolae Romanescu" Park, located in the southern part of the town. Unique in Romania, this valuable architectural monument is also one of the most interesting accomplishments of its kind in Europe. Through the initiative of Nicolae P. Romanescu, the mayor of Craiova at that time, the park was designed by French architect Émile Rendont. In 1900, the designs for the park won the gold medal at the Paris World Fair. Construction of the park began in 1901 and was completed in 1903. "Nicolae Romanescu" Park is considered to be the third great natural park in Europe. The bridge found in the park was the first cable suspension bridge built in Europe.

It can not be compared to Fin Garden in Kashan, but this one is also one of the oldest and the most beautiful gardens in Iran:

It's beautiful and it's really cool how it is in the middle of the desert like that. A true Oasis.

Jardin Botanique de Montréal / Montréal Botanical Garden
The Montreal Botanical Garden is one of the biggest and best in the World (the second after London's Kew Royal garden). It covers 185 acres on the Island of Montréal, Québec, Canada. It has the worlds largest chinese garden outside of China. There are 22 000 species of plants, 10 exposition greenghouses, an insect museum (Insectarium) and soon to open, an biodeversity center (research and exposition and conservatory area). Construction began in 1932, and the main garden was finished in 1956.

Nice thread, that Historical Shazdeh Garden is a weird thing, never heard of it before, but its quite impressive!
![]() And as Elsevillliano already said... the Real Alcazar gardens are really wonderful ones, not too big, not extremely organised, but just wonderful. Some more extra pictures by me ![]() ![]()

Great thread. The Chinese / Japanese and Iranian gardens are the most beautiful / spectacular IMHO.
European gardens of Versailles, Chatsworth, Vaux-le-Vicomte, Palace of Caserta etc. are more grand than beautiful. And a maze made of hedges does not a beautiful garden make.

Some beautiful gardens here. I've never really gone for the formal French tradition of Versaille though. I prefer gardens that are based on interpretted nature as opposed to supposing control over nature - if that makes sense. I find the Japanese examples particularly beautiful for that reason.
I'm surprised no-one's brought up the English Landscape Tradition of Gardens, particularly Stourhead - so I'll do the honours. Where does garden end and natural landscape begin?... image hosted on flickr ![]() Autumn at Stourhead by Cath in Dorset, on Flickr ![]() Image by Amanda White Photography Some more beautiful photos if you follow the link. image hosted on flickr ![]() Stourhead grotto by Hotfish, on Flickr image hosted on flickr ![]() Stourhead. by Hotfish, on Flickr image hosted on flickr

all those heavily manicured gardens into geometric shapes and layouts look really dumb if you ask me
the ones that look like renovated versions of their organic environments are far more pleasing |
