I just can not understand why Germans in West Germany (East was different story) did not reconstruct old towns in their key historic cities like Cologne ?

Well, Cologne partly did the job. Especially with all its romanic churches, but also on parts of its old town at the river Rhine. Actually the city did quite a good job on that. The only problem with Köln is the partly simplified reconstructions and its immense failure in rebuilding most of the remaining city in an extremely modernist way, that is such an unappealing contrast to the historical heritage or reconstructions. Hopefully they'll reconstruct more of the city center in the future.

Cologne is great even today but I have an impression that far too little was done - and I hate those buildings near the cathedral - this is crime to build sth like this near one of the greatest structure in humankind history:

Uhm... What do you mean? Besides some single smaller courtyard buildings or extensions, there's nothing extraordinary really.

sure. from all the cities untill now, is bamberg the most original.

sometimes i think the black white pics before ww2, is an illusion, a dream, not real, but bambergs makes you think the beauty of the german cities was really real.
but intstead of this we have a lot of syks-crap-pers

Wien

When those pictures were done, Vienna, the capital of Austria, was part of germany. That's propaly the reason why the Pilot made pictures of vienna and other austrian cities.

Today, not a part of germany, but it doesn't hurt to post them anyhow in this thread. DonÄt wanna open an extra thread.

I am amazed by the huge number of pictures. my guess is that by now between 1500 and 2000 pictures are uploaded from the 3100 pictures in whole!!!

The german pilots did even photos of Rothenburg ob der Tauber and Limburg an der Lahn!!!. But sadly, there are now pictures of those 2 cites in bing maps.

They even did Tübingen, but sadly the black and white pictures aren't that detailfull like the most other pictures.

But back again to business.

Innsbruck, Austria
