I can't compete with the great pictures of Benonie. But still, here is the next part of my humble effort of showing my city to the world.

We are still in the Marolles, a popular neighbourhood in the southern part of the city center.

This used to be a printing office, now it hosts lofts for the better fortunate...

Part of the old city walls (12th century)

Brigittinechurh, now a cultural centre

Berg van Barmhartigheid. This is a pawnshop

Horta's kindergarten.

Oysters in the vossenstraat/rue des renards

That's all for today, folks!

Why not?

Just put a frame around it and they're alomst equal. And I love the little streets and unknown parts of Brussels you take us in your thread, like the Pawnshop and Horta's childgarden this time.

Great!

The underground city

In Brussels at the place Royale, there used to be a palace, the Coudenbergpalace, where Emperor Charles used to live.

In the middle ages, Brussels was dominatied by this enormous palace. Build in the 12th century it grow to be one of the most beautifull palaces in Europe, it was also the main residence of emperor Charles. In februari 1731 it was destroyed by a fire. On the ruines the place royale was build. Today the remains can be visited beneath the actual place.
The site is very near the royale palace, entrance at the museum Bellevue, also worth a visit. Under ground you see actual streets remaining...

The site is located under this square, place royale:

Soon it will be spring and I will go out and take some more pictures of an unknown Brussels, because I try to show you a Brussels that tourists don't see.
In the meantime some pictures I had left on "the shelf".
