Hamburg’s skyline - Nightsky’s trip to Germany

Hamburg has no actual skyscrapers, but a lot of tall church towers and some tall highrises here and there. The best way to see Hamburg from above is
from the churches St Peter (no elevator, 542 steps!) and St Nikolai (elevator) or the air balloon.

I started my Hamburg visit by walking 3/4 of the 542 steps towards the top at the 133m tall church St Petri Kirche. I didn't go to the top because I was
exhausted and liked to spare my powers for the rest of the day. The wooden stairs are very steep and only the staircase prevents you from falling down to
the floor of the steeple, so it is definately nothing to recommend for people with bad health. Just look at the photo below...

Petrikirche's top is at 133m. The church is Hamburg's 2nd tallest building.

There are circular windows on the bottom of the spire (about 3/4 the way to the top), so I could take some aerial photos of Hamburg without going to the top.
View to the southeast :

The Highflyer balloon at Deichtorplatz, another way to see Hamburg from above. In the middle is the main station, very close to my hotel.

To the East:

To the south:

To the west:

Going down again, seeing the bell of the St Petri steeple.

Thanks.

Next time I will visit Reeperbahn, St Pauli and Altona. I didn't manage to see everything since I was there for only one day and I was very tired, so I mostly stayed in the area around the hotel (close to the main railway station). Hamburg was just an unplanned stop, but a very interesting stop, on my way back from Frankfurt since my plane was cancelled because of the volcano.

Small correction: What you think is the central station, is in fact the wholesale market hall. The central station is this:

I was at the top of the same church and the few metres height make a big difference.

BTW: You can also go onto the observation platform of St.Michaelis church (the landmark of Hamburg), however I prefer the view from St.Petri.

Thanks!

@DiggerD21: You're right, I should have known since I lived pretty close to the station.

I think the buildings look more visible from a lower height. Nicolaikirche also has an observation platform.
