no, and thats exatly why so many people bash building a new stadium for Corinthians, with government money help, when there is already a public stadium (Pacaembu), already a new stadium being renovated for 45 thousand people (Parque Antartica, from Palmeiras) and already a stadium for over 65 thousand people, also under renovation (Morumbi). And none of those will be used in the World Cup.

So plans have shifted back to the Morumbi now? I thought the Corinthians stadium was sposed to be hosting matches with some temp seats.

Excellent design, unlike the boring classic round design of the Brazilian stage, the audience will be closer to the action than any other stadium in Brazil. Congratulation.

there are no such thing as "close to football specific". Beira Rio is a football specific stadium. Being slighly oval or not is not being "football specific". its a simple fact that all the largest stadiums in Brazil were oval. There are hundreds of square "english like" football stadiums in Brazil, where the crowd is very near the pitch. All of them are small stadiums from small clubs. besides, if you want a private stadium for 60 thousand people, square shaped, look no further than Grêmio Arena, which is being built in this exact moment and wont even be used in the World Cup. http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=448668 |

Because they're neither football-specific in the regular meaning of that phrase, nor multifunctional in terms of hosting athletics. We both know I'm not using professional names here, but I don't think I have to explain what I mean as it's pretty clear that oval stadiums like Beira Rio or Maracana offer compromised sightlines for spectators, compared to the likes of Gremio Arena. the oval shape is the best shape to put more people in the stadium without adding too much height. to have a stadium for 80 thousand, either you make it very tall, or you make it not so tall but oval. |
