Laurentj's paper models

Hi everyone,

I just registered not long ago on this board and I was glad to find a community about skyscrapers models. I built my first models more than 10 years ago (chrysler, empire state and sears tower) after I saw the entire lower manhattan scaled model which was on top of the WTC. I don't know if anyone remember this but I've got a few pics of this and it was quite impressive. So, back home I started building models based on a few pictures and it wasn't easy but the results were really good. I still have my old chrysler building which is kind of huge (1/510) compared to the models posted here.

I've been happy to find now ten years later, things are now easier with all the models some of you have created. Thanks for this to all of you. I've started building quite a few but I have had a hard time with Burj Khalifa from Rei. So after three failed attempts I decided to built and design my own. I'm still busy doing it and I've spent lots of hours on this project. I'll post a few pics when I'm done and I'll share the files with you guys. I think you'll be quite impressed. It's an exact replica (1/1700) and even the number of windows is exactly the same. I made it easy to build as well. Can't wait to contribute and show you this beauty. I'll post it here once I'm done.

Happy building and see you soon!

Thanks guys... but :-) like I said those pics are of a Manhattan Scaled Model I took in 1997 on top of WTC. So this is not my work unfortunately. These models were destroyed on 9/11. I don't know who built it but probably a lot of people involved.

You'll see my work later. I'll post pics of my old chrysler building and in a week or two, my Burj Khalifa that I'm currently building

On file ? What do you mean ?

If you mean: do I have the files for these models, Burj Khalifa, yes, I'll be happy to share my files so you guys can build it and it's 1/1700. The Chrysler building, no I don't have any files. I did the chrysler building 10 years ago with what I had at that time. And anyway, my chrysler is 1/510.

(excuse me... english is not my first language)

I have just finished building the base and core of my Burj Khalifa and the first three tiers (tier 11, 10 and 9). I'll post pics tomorrow, when the first three tiers have been glued to the core. Took me many trials and errors to get this right but I finally got it.

As soon as I finish building, I'll post the files with detailed instructions on how to build it. I'm quite proud of some solutions I have found to get the perfect shapes of all tiers around the core. This is what was the most challenging. I've spent two weeks, 10 hours a day, calculating and designing this skyscraper. Every floor has the exact same height at 1/1700 and the windows count is exactly the same. That's how perfectionist I am :-)

And here is the Chrysler Building I built 10 years ago with a bad printer. I calculated everything and made the textures from just one photograph I scanned in a book.
