Phase Two underway: 4.22.13

Quote:
Today we bring you the first of a monthly photo series documenting the huge, multi-year construction project under way at City Point. When completed, the mixed-use development will include more than 1.8 million square feet of retail, entertainment, food, office and residential space on the corner of Flatbush Avenue and Fulton Street. The first phase of the project, located at 1 DeKalb Avenue, opened this fall with an A/X Armani Exchange store. Construction on Phase Two started last year and should wrap in the fall of 2015. (No timeline has been set yet for Phase Three.) Phase Two consists of a 670,000-square-foot retail center — it will be Brooklyn’s largest — under two residential towers. Together the two towers will have 690 units, 125 of which will be affordable apartments. Right now workers are digging down two levels below grade to pour the foundation on the 90,000 square foot site. They are moving from south to north, and as excavation is completed on one part, concrete work follows.

SO the construction shown in the pics is not of the towers themselves?

City Point Phase II Is A Huge Hole!

http://www.brownstoner.com/blog/2013...-june-edition/

Quote:
As part of their monthly City Point update, Brownstoner has some pretty awesome aerial views of the City Point site. Phase one, the boxy four-story retail complex at Fulton Street, is open for business, and phase two is underway. Currently, it pretty much just looks like a big dirt pit as the site is still being excavated, but crews are also pouring the foundation along Fleet and Gold Streets and installing underground mechanicals.

It hasn't been scrapped but rather than go through a difficult approval process, the developer chose to focus on building everything else first. Then we get the battle.

Hmph, too bad this building has no SSP diagram drawing. I'd love to include it in my diagram

Phase III is being held for last due to the controversy around the height and density of the development [with it]. Under de Blasio, it may be drastically reduced at which time the thread will get moved.

I know this might be a bit off topic but I'd like to ask, what is Blasio's opinion about tall buildings? Will he cause problems for new developments or is he OK?

CityPoint Wins Approval For Nearly 1 Million Sq. Ft.

Quote:
City Point

Acadia Realty Trust was issued a 996,540-square-foot permit for its gargantuan 1.8 million-square-foot City Point residential and commercial development in Downtown Brooklyn at 70 Fleet Street. The project, which is being built on city-owned land and received a government subsidy for the project’s affordable housing component, has been at the center of the debate over hiring nonunion workers.

He's OK. He was the one who argued that the Midtown Rezoning wasn't ambitious enough. But like all politicians he wants them on his terms. Now with his affordable housing promise, it's likely he'll cut a lot of deals with developers allowing them to build to their hearts content for the right price (units of affordable housing).
