That was definitely a bad period for Spain, because of the crisis under Felipe III de España reign and the economic decadence from the second half of 1600 to 1700. The spanish baroque was late and not so interesting and innovative as in the rest of Europe, mostly decorative.

If there is one reason to consider Spanish Baroque as important, it is because it is the idiom by which the Baroque style became arguably the first truly global style (even if we would consider the legacy of Alexander the Great).

Spanish Baroque was introduced into every corner of the Spanish Empire, and its legacy endures even today.

San Agustin, Intramuros, Manila, the Philippines.
