S.Africa has 'real chance' of hosting 2023 World Cup: IRB
"Because of the soccer World Cup (in 2010) there is now a new possibility for South Africa to organise big events like the rugby World Cup and there's a real chance that in 2023 they can organise it," he told Reuters. "In terms of the World Cup we have certain key unions and South Africa is part of that. Now it has these new stadiums it has the capacity to run very big tournaments." Lapasset and IRB CEO Mike Miller met the country's new sports minister Fikile Mbalula on Thursday to discuss the IRB's future role in helping to develop the game in South Africa and across the continent. "The minister indicated to us that the government would be fully behind a bid for 2023 and were very keen for the World Cup to come here again," said Miller. "It's up to the IRB council to decide where it should go but I would have thought that South Africa would have a very compelling bid." TRADITIONAL POWERHOUSE "It's most likely, having gone to Japan in 2019 where we're taking a bit of a risk, that council would probably want to go back to one of the traditional powerhouses of rugby in 2023 and South Africa is clearly one of those. "There's no doubt that Japan, having had 10 years to prepare, has been very helpful but South Africa won't need 10 years." However, he added that a decision on which country will host the 2023 tournament would probably be taken in 2013. South Africa has hosted the tournament just once, in 1995 when the Springboks beat New Zealand in the final. The country was expected to win the right to host either the 2015 or 2019 tournaments but two years ago these were awarded to England and Japan respectively. Miller added that his organisation was happy with New Zealand's preparations for hosting this year's World Cup. "With just over 200 days to go we're very pleased with the preparations so far," he said. "The renovations on all the stadiums have been done and we don't have any concerns. "There were worries about whether there would be enough hotel rooms but there will be three cruise ships that will house thousands of people. "New Zealanders know that this is their opportunity to showcase New Zealand to the world. They also know that they will probably never get an event of this size again."

Good game by the Sharks, conditions werent ideal again with the ball being slippery but a win against the Blues, I'll take it! |

Crusaders v Sharks at Twickenham? from MSN-SA
The Crusaders have asked the Sharks if they can move their Round Six Super Rugby clash from New Zealand to Twickenham in London on March 25. The English capital will become the first foreign city to host a Super Rugby match if the proposal is accepted by the South African team. The Crusaders have had to move their home fixtures away from Christchurch after the recent earthquake damaged AMI Stadium. Some games have subsequently been moved to Nelson, at the north of the country's South Island, but the 10,500-seater Trafalgar Park facility is not seen as a viable long-term option due to financial reasons at it holds only half the average crowd for a Crusaders game. The Durban team have confirmed they are considering the proposal, with a decision expected to be made after they play their second tour match against the Rebels in Melbourne on Friday. "It is under discussion but we will only make a decision on whether to accept after our game on Friday," Sharks chief executive officer, Brian van Zyl, told Durban newspaper, The Mercury. "While we understand their difficulties, we must make a rugby decision that is best for the Sharks' campaign. "It must be a decision in the best interests of the team and our stakeholders." The Crusaders played their first game in Nelson over the weekend - a match that saw them overcome the Waratahs 33-18. Their previous match against the Hurricanes, due to be held in Wellington, was cancelled and declared a draw, while they are set to host the Brumbies this weekend - the final home match before the tie against the Sharks. "It's certainly an option. Australia's an option, elsewhere around the country's an option and we want to balance that with our region," Crusaders chief executive Hamish Riach said. "We can't get through our year on 10,500 people every week so we want to do something big and dramatic." The Rugby Football Union have received an approach from the Crusaders and they are open to the idea of staging the match. But officials at Twickenham are currently investigating whether it would be possible to do so at such short notice. A decision is expected on Wednesday..

Hmmm, guess it doent make sence to fly all the way to London for one game.
Perhaps the can play in at the Cake Tin, or Nelson as they are , and just take the hit financially? The other option being Aus, and if the secure a decent size stadium, perhaps reduce the price, fill her up , and make a portion available for disaster relief charity etc?
