Weekend in Phnom Penh

Hi,

I do not know if I have chosen the good forum to ask a few questions about visiting Phnom Penh.

I am from Poland and will be visiting Bangkok in a week. I have also a plan to visit Phnom Penh during weekend. I going to go to Phnom Penh by Air Asia from Suvarnabhumi Airport.

I have a few questions to you guys.

1. Is Phnom Penh a save place for a single European tourist like me?
2. What hotels do you recommend for stay? (any links, etc.)
3. What are the famous places to visit in your capital?
4. I am also a big fan of photography, is it allowed to take the photos everywhere in Cambodia? (cities, streets, famous buildings, airports?)

I would be so grateful for any information about that from you.

Question 2)

What kind of hotels are you looking for? Guest Houses .. 4 or 5 star hotels?

Guest House opposite the Cambodiana Hotel cost less than US$10 per night, or $90 at the Naga Hotel and Casino.

Hehe. You double post like me sometimes

All is said but I added just that.

Like many places in the word, even in rich country, be careful when you use a Reflex or something expensive. Especially at night.

If is just a week end, I think an hotel on Quai Sisowath is good because you can walk the night and go to the hotel fast.

Personnaly, I find traditionnal market as Psah Orussey (I think it is here) very interesting. Because local people come here to buy food (fish, beef, vegetable ...) like people in sixties/seventies I imagine. You can see different type of colors, of life. You can smell another world. The sound is different. Well for me, it was a good experience. It is a unique place to discover something new and different of the modernism !

For #4 question, you also should spend sometime in Siem Reap(Angkor) if you like to take pictures. Siem Reap(Angkor) is the top attractive place in Cambodia. I'm sure you will like it.

Don't forget to visit the National Museum in Phnom Penh that showcases Cambodia's rich history:

And maybe the S-21 Prison Torture Museum to get a feel of Cambodia's recent horrific history during the Khmer Rouge era.

Have a great trip and be safe!

1. Phnom Penh is actually a very safe place for tourist.
2. you can find hotel anywhere near riverside or along Monivong Blvd. the price is reasonable, up from 15$ for air-con room.
3. the must-see landmark in PP is, Wat Phnom, Independent Monument, Royal Palace, National Museum and S21 Prison (Genocide Museum). You can go shopping at Russian Market (antique or cultural products), Central Market and Sorya Mall. Also, you could hang out in club or bar along riverside area, or visit Casino (Naga World).
4. You can take photo anywhere in Phnom Penh.

Did you know you are responding to a post 9 months ago, he most likely has already visit PP.

Anyway, with #4, I think you can take photo anywhere except Royal Palace.
