Ganguly could get IPL lifeline
Quote:
Sourav Ganguly might find himself back on the field for the 2011 IPL after all, even though he failed to attract any bids from franchises during the auction on January 8 and 9. ESPNcricinfo has learnt that the BCCI has sent a letter to the franchises asking if they have any objections to teams signing Indian players who were unsold in the auction. The letter specifically mentions Ganguly as one of the players the franchises are interested in, along with Wasim Jaffer and VRV Singh, who were the other two Indian players that weren't bought. IPL rules presently do not permit unsold players to be signed after the auction.

The Kochi franchise is reported to have shown interest in signing Ganguly, and had apparently contacted the BCCI, leading to the sending of the letter. However, Mehul Shah, one of the co-owners of the franchise, told ESPNcricinfo that was not the case and they had not asked the board for permission to sign Ganguly.

Subsequently, Ganguly's original franchise, Kolkata Knight Riders, said that it would be open to having him on board in some capacity.

You are right. Though he is sentimental, he is a good player. He has good spirit. Actually, this spirt has to be utilised for team. He is a fine bowler, no doubt for it. He should get good support. I support Sreesanth. Pls look at the ball he bowled to Kallis, in the second test against South Africa. It was fine and aggressive. He can bowl similar deliveries.

It is not the problem of getting support from Bengalis. Ganguly is a good batsman, eventhough he has some styles to defend the ball etc. But I think, he will be a big asset to Kochi IPL teaml. The main problem is his indiscipline. He should have good touch with team management.

Breaking News! In a significant development, the leading weekly magazine Tehelka revealed the names of black money account holders at Germany's LGT Bank. The Tehelka journalist accessed the report that was kept hidden from the public for two years.

[LGT-Bank] Germany had handed over the list to India on 18 March 2009. The list contains people who kept their money stashed in the LGT bank of Liechtenstein, 190 km from Munich, Germany.

The LGT bank of Liechtenstein is considered a tax haven for many foreigners who want to preserve their black money. According to Tehelka, it accessed 16 of the 18 names and decided to publish 15 names on its website with the title, "Indian Black Money: The Swindler’s List".

Tehelka also decided to contact the people who are in the list and still awaiting for their reply and explanation on this matter. The Indian names in LGT Bank list hold no significance, as these are just a tip of the iceberg. The Headlines Today reported that the Mehta Brothers owned 12% stake in Kochi IPL Team.

Black money list revealed, Kochi IPL owners exposed

MUMBAI: The controversial Kochi franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL) could be in serious trouble yet again if media reports are to be believed. Headlines Today carried reports of a Friday development that Rosy Blue owner Harshad Mehta — who owns 12% stake in the Kochi franchise — is being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate in India and parallel authorities in Antwerp ( Belgium) for holding secret accounts in overseas tax havens.

TOI could not confirm this independently but it was learnt that the board (BCCI) is taking serious view of the report that has surfaced on the news channel. Unconfirmed reports further added that board called for an urgent meeting in this regard and the matter will be investigated.

Mehta is currently in Dubai and neither he nor any of the Kochi team co-owners could be contacted.

The channel claimed that it is in possession of the list of 16 people who are guilty of holding secret bank accounts overseas. Among those names, Mehta — and other top executives of Rosy Blue — are also being probed. It was also reported that the funds transferred by Mehta to certain trusts maintained by Rosy Blue are prime targets of the investigating authorities.

While BCCI may not have a direct connection with Mehta's personal dealings overseas, the fact that their focus remains on cleaning up the IPL will ensure that they seek thorough details in this regard. BCCI had earlier claimed that it wanted to get rid of certain IPL franchises because the source of funds routed by these franchises into the tournament was not known. If allegations against Mehta are proved true then BCCI will have to take similar action against the Kochi franchise.

Meanwhile, suspended IPL commissioner Lalit Modi who was always had his doubts about the Kochi franchise, tweeted saying, "Kochi team stands exposed once again. Hope folks (read: BCCI) figure out that due diligence is key."

This reminds me a (in)famous SRK comment on his sports affinity " I really enjoy kicking the balls around, irrespective of the size that matters"

Saurav surely deserves a better treatment, considering the inclusion on the likes of Mohd Kaif, Ramesh Powar etal to various IPL teams. But ironically cricket these days more affiliated to its "power play sessions". I think Kochi IPL teams follows the CPM idealogy & thought process by taking lot of sweet time and barge into last minute shocking decisions.
Anyways...the cup is still brewing hurricanes one after another...

Theeyi Kurthathe Veilatthu Vadille....... I sure, the current ordeal helps Kochi Team to become more successful in future, as in past....

I believe mere name in the list will not affect Kochi IPL, because as long as its not proved that invested amount in team is from that source, Kochi IPL is more safe.

All the best for Kochi team for passing the new test.....

BCCI to adopt wait and watch policy on Kochi team investor

Mumbai: The Cricket Board, yet to recover from the alleged scams of former Indian Premier League chairman Lalit Modi, has a new problem confronting it with news reports Sunday saying tax evasion notice has been issued to one of the investors of its new Kochi franchise by the Central Government.

BCCI president Shashank Manohar said from Nagpur that the Board would not do anything, but wait and watch the progress of this controversial development, for the present.

"We have not been informed directly about this. He (Harshad Mehta) has been reportedly served notice for tax evasion, which is not a criminal offence. We will wait and watch," said Manohar, reacting to the development that has the potential to grow into another new headache for the Board.

According to the official website of Kochi IPL franchise – Kochi Cricket Pvt Ltd – Mehta is among its shareholders through Film Waves Combine, an investment firm.

"Film Waves Combine is an investment company of Mr Harshad Mehta, Senior Partner of Rosy Blue Group, which has a turnover of over 7500 crore and are world leaders in the jewellery industry," is the information given on the website.

The other investors as per website www.kochiteam.com, are: Anchor Earth, Parinee Developers, Rendezvous Sports World Pvt Ltd, Anand Shyam Estates and Vivek Venugopal.

In fact, after winning the bid for one of the two new IPL teams from BCCI, the investors were wrangling for a long time and, at one stage, looked like losing the IPL franchise before they buried the hatchet and got the BCCI's go-ahead.

At last month's players' auction, Kochi successfully bid for Team India swing bowler S Sreesanth and Sri Lanka spin legend Muthiah Muralitharan, among others.
