Hmm... looks a little tall to be 400 meters. Must be pretty thin

Amazing design, I love how it looks like it is just floating on the water. Here are the pics from the site that Julito-dubai linked:

Formally, the Tower is a traditional skyscraper turned inside-out, and like traditional Middle Eastern courtyard buildings, it turns its outer, protective face to the sun while opening inwardly to a central vertical “garden”. It is organized in two curving outer zones that contain the building’s private habitable spaces and define a central garden that climbs vertically through its height. The plan is organized on a northwest – southeast alignment that allows the prevailing winds from the Gulf to be channeled between the outer zones of the tower and through the central garden.
wow, what a unique design.

Though the link didn't say what that huge area below the tower was for. I'm assuming it's for commerical/entertainment use.

The piers at the base of the tower are no longer being built to the scale as the renders show. But they were planned for retail and leisure use.

Oh, just to let everyone know. Although the tower is pretty much guaranteed to be built, it isn't planned to start until 2013 at the earliest.

Well I was guessing that it would be scaled down. At first I was like 'woh that's really big!'

And 2013, hmm that's pretty far off. Do you know what's taking so long? Building permit? Are the developers waiting to get finances in order after the recent storm w/ Dubai World and its debt fiasco?

Well for a start the developer(s) already has other large developments under construction.

Secondly it sits on a island - currently inaccessible, other by boat. A permanent bridge to the island isn't planned to start until 2012/13. Also, the tower itself sits on its own island, which I am presuming it will be at least partially reclaimed from the sea.

Thirdly, the entire island will be developed in 15 phases starting in 2012. And although they have not been realised. I doubt that they will build Lulu Tower first....

That is why I am saying it will not be constructed before 2013.

Visit the Lulu Island Thread for more info.
