I do not really understand. The houses it self has neither taste nor culture, and architecturally speaking the designs are just tacky. Mind you, I don’t mind paying 10M for a loft in downtown, but a small one, but a house in the far end of the suburb with 15 rooms? I don’t think so – I think it goes beyond having a spacious place – this is just excessive. I would think the person living there is severely compensating for an unsatisfied life. Maybe I can be wrong though, I should think about this more later.

The design doesn't bother me that much. However, I really don't like the fact that they line them up so tightly*(let's not forget the paved driveways and minimal vegetation) I could see myself buying such a mansion if it was situated on a beautiful piece of land in the countryside. These houses appear steril to me because of the environment they are built in....enfin c'est la façon que je vois les choses mais j'ignore si c'est sensé!

I feel embarrassed for whoever buys here. I understand a family's desire to have their own house and yard even if it means a cookie-cutter box in a subdivision, but this is approaching mainland-China-style pretentiousness, lol. And the roof shingles are still asphalt despite everything... cultured stone must be really cheap these days.

just wait a few decades and you'll see that those neighborhoods will be very expensive and pretty. What these house really lack is vegetation which will eventually grow and make these houses very pretty. I have no complaints about the houses themselves, they're very good looking in my opinion...

Add some mature trees and sidewalks and you'll have something looking a lot like some of those very old close-in neighborhoods in Chicago.

no way, these houses have no charm nor will it ever have any. Plus, I bet you the craftsmanship is pretty shitty - so they wont even last that long.

I think that would be much more expensive.

I do not think cost is what makes me feel uncomfortable with these houses. See, the house I posted – it is nice, modern and a quite a livable space. I wouldn’t mind paying a lot of money for it – the location is prime! The view is incredible, and the design is uplifting! I wish I can live in a place like that.

What makes me feel uneasy about the macmansion is not so much the cost, but rather what they stand for. The size does not bother me at all, but I really don’t understand why it has to be that big – like think of it this way. You only have one ass, why do you need 12 bathrooms for? To me, the macmansions screams out, “Please look at me and feel that I am better than you.”

Lots of unused space to dust.

Not really. These are poor man's rich-person-houses. The narrow 3-bedroom house I live in probably costs more than 2 of them combined.

A few of them look garish but a lot of them are quite attractive, even classy. As the plantings grow and the neighborhoods mature, I think these homes will be in high demand.

I don't mind living in a big house like that if its in the middle of 1/2 acre land, otherwise no thanks.
