Agree , and doesnt look like it will be ready in time. They should move the matches to the Gremio arena.

I can't believe how this could be chosen as WC arena instead of Gremio arena. It's a disgrace!

As far as I know, the real capacity is 51,000 with seats all over the stands and 56,000 with no seats behind the goals...

Just because you want?

It will be ready on time.
WC is in 2014, not tomorrow.
December of 2013... that's the target. Everything is running as planned to finish at that date.
Fifa came to Porto Alegre last week to audit the stadium and they said it's everything OK.

Some details of the project:

I'm pretty sure this stadium won’t be ready and Gremio arena will step in, just a matter before they announce it Aren’t the FIFA inspectors in Brazil now?

FIFA, LOC AND FEDERAL GOVERNMENT REAFFIRM THEY ARE CONFIDENT IN PORTO ALEGRE’S PREPARATION PROCESS
Authorities inspect stadium and see what is being done in the capital of the state of Rio Grande do Sul to host the 2014 FIFA World Cup

The construction works of the stadium are on schedule and infrastructure related projects are on the way. This is what was seen by the delegation made up of members of FIFA, the Federal Government and the World Cup Local Organising Committee (LOC), in Porto Alegre this Thursday (17.10). FIFA Secretary-General Jerome Valcke stated that he had the opportunity to drive around in a car through the city and was able to see the investments made in the mobility programme, which is being developed to get the city ready.

“From what I've seen, I can say that FIFA has no specific concern in relation to the work being done in Porto Alegre. There is still a lot of work to do, but everything is on schedule and we don't think anything wrong will happen", he said.
The Minister of Sport Aldo Rebelo pointed out the positive environment he noticed in the city and reinforced that he is confident that the works will be delivered on time. “I saw an optimistic and good working environment. A city getting ready to host the World Cup for the second time, as in 1950. I am confident that it will be an example of organisation and hospitality for domestic and foreign tourists", he said.
“The city is going through a fantastic preparation phase and we see the World Cup as an opportunity to leave behind a legacy in urban mobility, public transport and public safety and security. Be sure that Porto Alegre will endeavour to be the best possible host", said Porto Alegre Mayor José Fortunati.
“We are very much aware and understand our responsibility and are certain that we shall overcome this challenge and stage the World Cup in such a way that people from the state of Rio Grande do Sul and Brazil will be proud of us", stated the acting governor Beto Grill. “We are working on energy, mobility, safety and security related issues, as well as on the airport and all other matters required by the event. We shall not disappoint. We shall do what has been agreed on”, he added.
During the visit, the delegation was able to watch an explanation on how the refurbishment works are progressing (see the video below, which was part of the presentation, with subtitles in English or Spanish). Then, they inspected the pitch accompanied by children and the official mascot, and were able to get an overall look of the refurbishment works from the observation deck.

Schedule
According to the schedule, the Beira-Rio Stadium’s delivery date continues to be December 2013. Currently, 38.6% of the refurbishment works have been concluded and 800 builders are at work at the building site. The stadium will play stage to five 2014 World Cup matches. The first structures of the new rooftop cover will start to be put in the next few days. The membrane, which is part of the section, was procured from a German company. The old marquise has been removed. See a video that shows what the Beira-Rio’s rooftop cover will look like (in Portuguese).
Investments in the order of R$ 330 million are being made in the Beira-Rio Stadium, R$ 225 million of which from federal financing. The ground will host four matches of the group stage of the 2014 FIFA World Cup and one game in the second round.
The round of visits to host cities started on Tuesday with an inspection in Belo Horizonte, host of three Confederations Cup matches and six 2014 World Cup games. This Thursday, Rio de Janeiro will hold a meeting of the Local Organising Committee Management Board.
So, don't worry and be patient.

IMO there's no doubt BR will be ready in June/2014!
As far as I know, Internacional will stop playing in the stadium from january on. This will accelerate the work

I actually really like the renovations to this... The roof looks fantastic, and I actually do like the oval to an extent.

Inspirations from Abroad shape unique design of the new Beira-Rio

Scheduled to be finished in December 2013, the new Beira-Rio appears only in the imagination of fans or advertising. For now. But one thing they can be sure: it will be a unique project. It is permissible to say that the stadiums tip inspirations, mainly European, will form the new house colorada. However, the central idea of the remodeling project will be unique.

Every day, there are different concepts for the venture become even greater. Not only for areas like accessibility or engineering, as well as marketing ideas, which the club will prosper from the stadium that will receive selections in clashes of World Cup 2014.

Recently, two representatives of the club were in Europe, known arenas and returned to Porto Alegre with new concepts. Those responsible for the tour were the engineer and director of equity Helium Giaretta and chief marketing officer Jorge Avancini.

Simple and affordable

On holiday in Germany last month, had Giaretta contact BTD group of directors, the company responsible for managing the Allianz Arena, Bayern Munich. During the visit to the stadium, the engineer said not only aesthetic beauty, especially the membrane that forms the light cover (similar to the system in which it will be deployed at the Beira-Rio), but stressed the functionality of any work, the facilities found from a building that exemplifies worldwide organization.

- To know a stadium is one thing, but to know how it works is quite another, only on game day to understand the operation. The question of functionality start from the accessibility, with programming as audience arrives at the stadium, whether by subway, the avenues, the connection with the building garage. Everything is programmed with time and is not generated congestion - says the engineer. - The Allianz Arena is very beautiful on the outside, but inside is a simple and functional structure. The finishes provided to the Beira-Rio are superior.

On Thursday, Inter said on their official website precisely what actions are being planned in terms of accessibility, such as doubling the Avenida Beira-Rio. In the stadium, being built 16 towers movement that will lead supporter of the bottom to the top, and 15 new lifts (totaling 19). All this will enable fulfill an important requirement FIFA, which is the evacuation of all 100% within eight minutes.

- The fan has to experience the game from the purchase of the ticket to the trip departure. There is no point having a beautiful stadium, without quality services. If not, the public will replace the bad experience he had with another activity - complements Giaretta.

Nice project. Look, I really want the work to be done in time, and I hope it looks great.

But for an outsider it looks like nothing was done. I think Gremio started their stadium after Beira Rio stared its renovations, and look how much they have done.

I hope you right and the project get completed as planned.

I know, for those that don't know the schedule it looks weird and ugly.
But don't forget 2 things:
1. First part of the project was just demolition. It's a delicate phase, it spend time, and while it is being doing it looks as nothing has being done.
2. Inter decided keep playing its matches on Beira-rio, so the project was planned to be slower until the end of 2012, when the stadium will be closed.

After 23, november (last Inter's game at beira-rio in this year) the project will run fast, so we will be able to see better images.

And for those others that don't know why Fifa choosed Beira-Rio, please ask Fifa about it. There is a contact area in their site, so maybe they can explain it for you.
Maybe it is because they don't want to show it around the world: http://sphotos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphoto...27698899_n.jpg

The fact is that, while most part of federation states are building white elephants and doing it only by government's initiative, Rio Grande do Sul is building two great stadiums, both completely according with Fifa Standards, and most important part: both are private clubs initiatives and will be fully occupied after 2014 WC. So, it doesn't matter so much which one will host World Cup, as both have conditions to it. It is much more important understand why Fifa and our national government choosed Brasilia or Manaus than discuss why they prefered Beira-Rio instead of Arena.

So, please focus on THIS project. If you don't like, that's OK, please give your opinion about how you think it could be better!

You are not the only one who thinks like that.
Such a shame that the Gremio stadium will not be used for WC.

Much closer to the pitch and more atmosphere!

If they made the lowest ring like the stadium of Belo Horizonte, the stadium will be much better and there will no discussion.

But I hope FIFA will made a change en pick the Gremio stadium

Not going to happen. The problem is not the stadia, but the surroundings. Beira-Rio is located in one of the most beautiful parts of the city. Gremio's, one of the worst.
