What's not to understand? It's a couple of blimps connected to a tower.

well its a couple of HUGE blimps, connected via a little connection and that connection is even movable. What i do not understand is how that is technically possible aka what mechanics and what materials they use.

I don't want to sound conservative, but why do they have to be so 'out there'? Why not a tower that looks good and can form as a landmark for TaiChung? That need to differentiate themselves to such as extent that the tower looks ugly is a waste. Yes, building this tower will be one big engineering accomplishment, but will it look nice?

The design in that first picture looks like a pile of alien fetuses. Disgusting. I really prefer the second choice.

the second design looks like a mini dubai city tower... but i still love it, apart from how fat the spire looks. Agreed about the first design though, it's hideous! Also, since it says 'Taiwan's Tallest Skyscraper', I assume that means that it will be taller than 509m?

The second design is almost a complete rip-off the Dubai City Tower:

Honestly, I find all three ugly.
The first one is way too short, clearly not more than 400-500ft. And indeed it does just look like a pile a scaffolding. It doesn't even look like a building.
The second one is much taller, but the sticks coming out at the bottom are asymmetrical and the top is too fat.
The third one has giant blimps stuck to it. What else is there too say?
I think Taiwan could do better than this. Hopefully new designs will follow.

1st Place is based on "banyan tree" which is a very common tree in Taiwan.

I think it's not cool but very unique for a "tower."

The winner design will go ahead. Taichung city government intend to build it.
