well looks like the winning design might get canceled WOOHOO!!! i'm actually glad because i definitely dont like the design; it would be such an ugly eyesore on taichung's skyline. i mean, a pile of metal stacked up to 300 meters in an already chaotic looking city? i think not!! but i hope they dont cancel the entire project but just choose another BETTER design. just a simple and elegant yet innovative, beautifully designed futuristic iconic tower that people especially foreigners would look at and go "WOW!!! THAT'S SOOOO FRICKIN COOL!! WHERE IS THAT?? OH TAIWAN?? WHERE IS THAT?? LEMME LOOK AT GOOGLE TAIWAN". is it that f**king hard to do??

anyway, i like these designs too:

That 1st rendering you posted doesn't look like it has a lot of rentable space. Cool looking building but just not enough rentable space to be profitable.

What a shame the metal structure was cancelled.

It was unique for sure and really massive. If they build something thinner i hope it will be at least 500m to make up for that.

Yes, 300m for a thin Observation tower is not really much indeed. As you say, something above 500m would be interesting.

Kali, All these other towers aren't iconic TO TAIWAN. It looks good, but has no meaning. I also don't like the old design but they must go back to the drawing board and come up with something iconic that can be related to Taiwan

well how was the eiffel tower iconic to france when it was built? or the twin towers in ny or how is the tokyo tree tower iconic to japan or the seattle space needle iconic to seattle? my point is towers eventually become iconic to a city/country over time. maybe they can sell cho dofu on the observation deck therefore making it iconic to taiwan.
