TOKYO 東京 | Roppongi Hills Crosspoint / 六本木ヒルズクロスポイント | U/C

Another render. It looks real!

By the way, guess who is making it? Mori. Somehow, it's like cleaning around Roppongi Hills.

It's not all Mori who is developing in this area, right across the street TV Asahi will be building a new concert/event hall plus offices.

http://company.tv-asahi.co.jp/conten...shiazabu-2.pdf

It's got the wonderful name:

TOKYO 東京 | Nishi-Azabu Land-use Plan 西麻布土地利用計画 | 18 fl | Plan

no render

It will be a event hall with 900 seats and an 18 floors high office building, it should go U/C next year.

height: ?
stories: 18
function: hall & office
status: plan
start: Summer 2011
completion: Autumn 2013

location:
Nishi-Azubu 1-chome, Minato-ku

http://goo.gl/maps/vKaH

It will fill up the existing gap along the Roppongi-dori, together with the building next to it and some buildings behind it that have to be demolished.

What about this?

I can't find more info, but I know that some of the land has already been bought...

I knew that something is happening but I hadn't looked into it, there isn't to much information anyway.

The projects unofficial name is 2nd Roppongi Hills Plan 第2六本木ヒルズ計画 but officially it's the Roppongi 5-chome West Redevelopment Project 六本木5丁目西地区市街地再開発.

The last news about this project is from 2008 when the Redevelopment Preparation Association was established. This is basically the 1st official step in the redevelopment process, it's the step before the actual decision to go ahead is made. This could take quite a few years, especially when it's as big as this. We will probably only hear more about this project when all the old buildings have been bought up, then they can make the decision to go ahead and ask for planning permission. Although there's always the chance that it isn't possible, but then we might see it cut into smaller pieces only developing the parts of the area that already have been bought.

This is the last post about the project on the "helicopter" blog:

Thank you! Indeed, information is hard to find for projects that are still in a preliminary phase.

By the way, I always wonder if there is a big project for Roppongi 7-chome, or if it will be redeveloped by small touches. Obviously it a perfect area for redevelopment, in the center of Roppongi, in the triangle formed by Roppongi Hills, Tokyo Midtown, and The National Center of Art. And there is already quite some land that has been bought, and even cleared (especially beside the Roppongi-dori), but I don't know if it's one or several (smaller) projects.
Could you help on that one too?

I don't think that there is a big redevelopment going on there right now that we don't know about, there are just too many smaller projects in this area.

Like the The Roppongi 7 Chome Land 六本木7丁目の再開発用地 right across the street from Tokyo Mid Town.

Japanese
http://www.pembrokere.com/jp/results25.html

English
http://www.pembrokere.com/portfolio/...i-7-chome-land

And down the street towards the National Art Center 2 new 90m+ residential pencil towers have been built in recent years.

http://www.blue-style.com/search.php...87%92%9A%96%DA

Plus there are more smaller new buildings in the area, some interesting architecture going on here. I guess this part of town is just too expensive for a huge redevelopment. Mori seems to only be buying up the somewhat less expensive neighborhoods (Toranomon 5-chome) or for sites with older bigger buildings (Roppongi 6-chome or the Pastoral Hotel). I guess they also will secretly have an eye on the American Embassy Residences in Roppongi 2-chome, if that goes up for redevelopment it could be a project as big as Roppongi Hills or Tokyo Midtown.

But I actually find it good that some parts of this part of town won't be redeveloped completely, I like the contrast it creates between the small scale town and the huge redevelopments.

Thank you. I knew for that small one and for the pencil towers, but recently some other parcels have been cleared (e.g. on the 15th block, the one of the Meidi-ya), so i was wondering.

I absolutely agree that the diversity of size is great and that give Tokyo's skyline a unique taste.

I especially like the contrast between skyscrapers and traditional Japanese houses, but the latter is unfortunately the easiest to buy and "develop", and often for boring small-sized mansion.
Roppongi 7-chome doesn't have old houses anymore, it's all quite ugly middle-sized buildings, so it will be good to see it replaced by classier buildings, and maybe a few "pencils".

As for the residence of the American embassy, I've never heard anything about it, but each time I look at a map I think, wow what a perfect place for large-scale project!

I found a bit more about Roppongi 7-chome.

The redevelopment on the 15th block is the TSK CCC Terminal Site Redevelopment TSK・CCCターミナル跡地再開発 the only thing is about this project is that I can see news articles about...

Tax fraud:

Land speculation:
http://www.shihoujournal.co.jp/plaza/100904_1.html

And not anything about a actual building.

Somehow this project lives up to Roppongi's somewhat shady image, I guess they must clear up the legal mess before we will see anything here.

Wow, that's quite "shady" indeed.

Funny, I hesitated to post this very same map! Nice work, although it dates from almost 2 years ago. There's a few changes, like the park behind the 15th block has been fenced.

Anyway, I think that's all for 7-chome. We can only wait and see, as always.

Up to now I've mostly focused on high-rise projects, from now on I will also try to pay some more attention to interesting low-rise projects.

Like this new project that went U/C this week on the well known crossing of Omote-sando & Meiji-dori in Harajuku across the street from Laforet Harajuku.

TOKYO 東京 | Omote-sando Project 表参道プロジェクト | 7 fl | U/C

http://www.tokyu-land.co.jp/news/2010/index_048.html

This is a new shop development on the spot of the t's harajuku / GAP Store with an interesting green roof terrace. The architect is Hiroshi Nakamura & NAP Architects, it will be completed in March 2012.

Momo, I think it's a great idea. Japan is blessed not only with many skyscrapers, but also with many architecturally unique projects.

I like very much this one, on the east side of Shinjuku station. 安与ビル, Yasuyo building.

The best is of course, to have both high height and architectural perfection at the same time. For me, that is Shinjuku Mode Gakuen Tower, Izumi Garden Tower, Tokyo Midtown or skyscrapers in Shiodome...and others.

I second that... I entertained this idea a while ago, but gave up because it was difficult to find sources for good photos. This photostream has a great collection of Japanese architecture from all periods and styles, but it's very hard to find a full set of high-quality photos elsewhere, even for recent projects like 木材会館. Now that we have someone actually on the ground in Tōkyō (Braillard), maybe this will be a little bit easier.

People in Japan work really fast!!! I've been in Tokyo 4 years ago and today, i can't recognize the city! It’s amazing how fast the development is!

It's not just the lack of pictures, but what is missing in general is a good new Japanese architecture blog that just keeps tracks of new interesting buildings in Tokyo and Japan. You got a couple of blogs that have interesting news or pictures but it's not as focused as the hire-rise blogs.

And then there are also the projects that are not high-rise or not that architectural interesting, there's just too many of them to ignore them completely here. But it will always be just a selection of projects, it's simply impossible to post every new building project here of course.

At first I just going to show a selection of residential projects in Tokyo that are U/C right now. I just post the projects and without any construction pics, simply because they aren't readily available. I also won't put them in the project lists and overview, it's just to show a couple of random examples of new buildings.
