PUTRAJAYA: The master developer of the country's administrative capital recently unveiled its development plans from 2011 to 2016.

During a recent media tour of the Central Business District (CBD) on the core island, Putrajaya Holdings Sdn Bhd (PjH) showed its plans for office towers, business suites, high street retail complexes, hotels, educational institutions, recreation and entertainment centres in Putrajaya.

PjH chief executive officer Datuk Azlan Abdul Karim said Putrajaya was not just a government enclave. In addition to the core island, the Putrajaya International Hub at Precinct 8 was expected to attract foreign investments and the expatriate community.

"Through PjH's aggressive marketing efforts, the company will attract business owners and investors who appreciate a well-planned city with top-notch security features, sophisticated transport and telecommunication systems, and a serene environment.

"As always, all PjH projects carry the master developer's signature. They are prestigious, sustainable, innovative and aesthetically pleasing, underscored by the harmony of a well protected environment," said Azlan.

In line with the government's aim to develop Putrajaya as a model green city, PjH would ensure that future buildings there meet the Green Building Index standards, he said.

Among the highlights of the tour were the four new government buildings along the 4.2km stretch known as the Boulevard. They will be the new offices of the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development -- the tallest building in Putrajaya with 42 storeys -- the Ministry of Rural Development (37 storeys), Housing Ministry (37 storeys) and Ministry of Information (32 storeys).

Construction of the futuristic-looking buildings began in 2007 and is scheduled to be completed by August next year.

The distinguishing feature of Putrajaya is that 38 per cent of the city area is designated for green open spaces.

There will be an artificial wetland and 38km-long waterfront spanning 12 per cent the total area of Putrajaya

Extensive landscaping has been undertaken for the garden city. Water, air and noise pollution levels are closely monitored and controlled.

The living population of Putrajaya stands at 80,000 and the working population at 120,000. PjH hopes to increase the living population to 350,000.
