How do people in India view their heritage? Do they think it should be protected or do they not give a shit and think its better to embrace the modern?
Those structures are certainly impressive. I remember watching a programme (I think it was Paul Merton In India) and they visited this small town which was filled with old buildings facades of which were all covered in frescoes, any idea where that is? |

Thats certainly sad, I think people will miss it once its gone. But, maybe overtime this sort of thinking will change and people come to appreciate and love their heritage and hopefully India with its new found wealth will save its architectural treasures.
I find this new trend of blindly embracing everything modern very worrying to be honest. The World and its diiferent cultures are in danger of becoming dull and clone like. Maybe it will sound arrogant, but I think India would no longer be India without these buildings. Same goes for many other countries. Culture is worth protecting. |

is it possible for a private person to buy this???
is it state-owned? I might sale sale of of my properties for buying something like this and move there to restore it. It would be a once in a lifetime adventure! Last edited by erbse; October 19th, 2010 at 11:59 AM. |

^What you are suggesting has already been done with some heritage buildings in India and more are being planned. Also a lot of these old buildings are being turned into Heritage Hotels. I'm not sure about the ownership of this particular one.

Great thread.
Lovely pictures. India have such an incradible history, and I really hope their heritage can be saved. Like all the building seen here in this gallary. I have been to India twice and I was really impressed by the huge amount of historical buildings like fortresses, temples, palaces and monuments. |
