Would any Brazilians be happy if I had passed away myself or lived with a serious physical disability? Since Rio was elected to host the Olympics, I dealt with deaths of celebrities, an earthquake in Japan and Haiti, and a plane crash involving a President of Poland (who was an incumbent) and most of his cabinet. That was the price I had to pay because I opposed an Olympic bid and supported another whose bid was eliminated first and the bid I opposed became successful.

And from the Rio Capital Turistica thread, Flamengo and Batista may come together to buy the Maracana Stadium. "A document may stipulates that companies or individuals interested in managing the Maracana include in its proposal a project to build a car park for at least 2,000 cars in the area of the sports complex. For this, the government opens the possibility for the administrator of the area put down the Celio de Barros athletics track and the Julio Delamare Aquatic Park and build them into another area, to no more than 5 km away from the stadium.

I think they will put the cauldron as a sun over the center of the roof of Maracana. Visible from inside, visible from outside.

The official cauldron should be put in the hand of the Christ Statue, and they should put huge, specially shapped screens in both Maracana and the Athletics Stadium showing live images of it. That would be a first, what do you guys think?

Bad idea... All people who are not christian will not like to see a religious monument "carrying" the cauldron.
Indeed, IOC does not like to link itself with religious movements.

About the landscape it would be really outstanding, but there is a statue there... So no deal

The cauldron will be placed somewhere in Maracana Stadium area.

My concept for the 2016 caudron is based on Santos Dumont, a brazilian inventor who designed, built, and flew one of the first practical dirigibles.

In 1898 Santos-Dumont flew his first balloon design, the Brésil.

The cauldron would be placed in a aerostat at the end of ceremony the ballon would move to the olympic park located in barra zone or to the Joao Havelange track and field stadium.

At the closing, the cauldron should come back to maracana stadium.
