I would like that. If this was done in 2006, we wouldn´t have built the crappy Engenhão. But the reality is different and we will host amazing games in our (aproved) way =D

And I´m sure people will go to Rio because of it´s natural landscape, because of the beaches, Maracanã, the parties and the beautiful people. A missing olympic track in the main stadium will not ruin all that!

If you don´t like it, go have your 2016 party in super Beijing Bird´s nest future mall.

Missing athletics track in ceremonies stadium will be considered un-Olympic. Will ruin 2016 Summer Olympics, still going to be a absolute disaster, blah, blah, blah...

blah blah blah blah..... this is a recording, no one really cares about your opinion, thank god for that!

Back to the stadium, to bad they couldn't keep it the original way! Having almost 200,000 for the opening ceromonies would have been awesome!

Jim you might aswell stop posting here, however you try to justify your opinions we all know there driven soley by nationalism and so or not worthy of serious discussion.

As far as the newer plans go I think its a great improvement on the originals, yes the two tiers are a clear part of the original design BUT the bottom tier is simpley too flat for seating and would have offered terrible views combined with the large distance to the pitch. linking both tiers the new lower section so raisng the angle of the stands and cutting down that distance at the sides clearly helps.

Are they actually dropping the pitch again aswell?

I didn't actually want any "Spion Kops" in the Mario Filho Stadium. And I hope they do lower the playing area and reduce the size of the football pitch.

The architects of the 12 stadiums that will host the World Cup 2014 in Brazil presented their projects at the American Institute of Architects (AIA) in New York on Thursday and Friday. The more complex work will be the Maracana in Rio de Janeiro, because it is a building with the outside horse. Catia Castro The architect responsible for the project, explains that the project is modified almost daily.
- We are dealing with a lady of 60 years. It is a very old stadium and it needs many changes. Now, for example, we just tear down the bleachers and found cracks in the overall sector of the chairs. So we may have to demolish and rebuild more than we had planned - to GLOBOESPORTE.COM Catia said.
The Maracana, which should only be ready in early 2013, will be a challenge for the architect because internally will go from an oval to a more rectangular shape to improve the view of most seats. The angle of the chairs also have to be modified to favor the view of the field, and the distance between them will be increased from 48 cm to 50, a request from FIFA to reduce the stadium capacity from 86,000 to 76,000 fans. Moreover, the time of evacuation of the stadium will come down considerably. Currently, in case of emergency, it takes 20 minutes, but FIFA requires not go seven. Therefore, four new ramps will be built, and the two current ramps will be expanded. All without modifying the look on the outside of the building.
- It's like making an omelet without breaking eggs - the architect joked.

I just wish they didn't have to straigten the west and east stands of the Mario Filho stadium and just lowered the pitch bhy a few metres.

Is there a schedule for the Mario Filho's reconstruction? If so, when is the lowering of the football field going to begin and end?

The pitch is NOT going to be lowered. If they did that again, the top tier would have some blind-spots.

I knew we should have let Populous redesign the Mario Filho Stadium. Who came up with the design of the reformed stadium, anyway?
