That is, you can not change the face of the stadium.

Maracana, as Berlim's olympic stadium, cannot be fully transformed. The facade needs to be preserved and that's why de reformulation will just bring over it's original form. The major intervention will be inside and at the top, with the new roof supoorted by a steel crown.

Still the stadium will sure look like a new one when it's done.

Just to get this right...From what I understood there won't be LEDs similar to those existing in the facade of the Alliaz Arena but instead the traditional grey columns and beams cannot be redisgned and have to remain as they are currently...right?

Exactly, the news puts the Allianz Arena LED as a reference, and I wanted to show how the LED to be used in Markan has nothing to do with that used in Allianz.

A WorldCup final and a football-nation like Brazil would have deserved more than just a 82k stadium. They should have lowered the pitch or something and make a 100-110k stadium. We all have the Maracana in our memories, like the biggest football arena in the world, even if it was surpassed by a few other venues in the last decades. But now it will become an average, boring stadium. Even the South Africans managed to build a bigger stadium.
It's a pity... This WorldCup could have been the chance for the Maracana to regain it's glory...

If they did that, there would be some blind-spots in the 2nd tier!

I totally agree, wouldn't be easier to make brand new tiers and what's more important - make them more steepy and dig more into the ground?

I wish the 2nd tier should remained oval, but steeper. 1st tier should be more rectangular (for example like in Cape Town Stadium) of course the pitch lowered a lot. Between them a small tier of skyboxes.

1st tier ~35000, 2nd ~60000 total: 95000

But this is how Maracanã looks right now, except for the 1st tier.

The pitch is not going to be lowered because of the blind-spots!

I think the official project is more aproppriate! But yours seems to respect the original shape of Maracanã.

thanks well, actually I made the 2nd tier steeper, so there won't be any blind spot. That's why it makes me wonder why they don't want to tear down the whole 2nd tier and made it steeper and dig deeper into the pitch? I'd understand that if it's not possible to make (technical) or the cost for this would be too huge...

Is that official color seats pattern?
