More new images of the Maracana reconstruction courtesy of Folha.com. Looks like they are tearing up more of the stadium's upper tier. And when are they going to get rid of the circular pitch and the moat surrounding it to make way for the new playing area?

(I always thought they were supposed to be doing the reconstruction behind closed doors.)

I believe they are going to demolish all the old structures while building the new ones. It will look like Maracana has never been erased at all.

A greenspace is being proposed for the area north of the Mario Filho Stadium.

But it´s important to say that all those green area will be ready just for the 2016 Olimpic Games. For the world Cup will be constructed just those two footbridges over the railway/street.

Mario Filho is gonna have a very expensive roof, but they're trying to keep the cost under US$1 billion.
