It seems that this will not be built, the city council forbade the high-rise construction in this whole area to protect the current view

I've seen many nice proposals for Belgrade, this being one of them. Too bad they are not implemented yet. What's going on with the Belgrade Port project? That one is a real killer.

This project will most likely not get approved because the mayor Dragan Djilas thinks it's excessive and that it destroys the river banks of Danube. Given the fact that right across the street there is a commieblock tower and that just some 700m down the street there is a cluster of commieblock towers it seems that the reasons are of political nature. The investor for this tower, intended to house Danube Mall and Kempinski Hotel, asked and got the protection of the state government which is now asking why he can't get permissions. Unfortunately for the investor government and mayor are not of the same political party and now the mayor is turning the serious investment into a political game. On top of that he intends to make the investor pay tax in the amount of 2 million EUR for holding construction back (in his eyes they should accept to renovate the adjoining old hotel without building the new tower). So we'll see but this is most likely cancelled.

I can understand that criticism. This syupposed to be a mall, but the lowrise looks very inaccessible in the way that the ground floor has been designed.
