Cities XL 2011

We all know how the first one failed to live up to expectations as the answer to Sim City 4, but now Monte Cristo is back with Cities XL 2011. The screenshots on the official site look good, but we will see about gameplay.

Why did the first one fail and why does this one seem better?

To my mind the first one failed cuz it was meant to have everything but only in online play mode. And online play was for a montly fee which noone wanted to pay.

The 2011 version has just a few more buildings, some more maps, and trains ... to my mind - faaaaaaaaaar to less for this time they are developing it.

The only real plus in CitiesXL is the "free form" of "none grid" building method or call it what you like. You can build streets any way you like not just straight or diagonal.

Let's see what the new version will coast and maybe (just maybe) I'll use my 50% discount on it for buying the first one.

The gameplay will be much the same with some differences in the trades (which were only made for online play and that crap of trade for solo mode wasn't actually trade) and in the megastructure building part. As much as I have read the articles on this thing

BTW ... Cities XL 2011 is developed by Focus Home Entertainment and NOT Monte Cristo

So? Didn't Focus buy out Monte Cristo?

No fuc*ing idea ... but still Focus is not Monte Cristo even if they did buy out Monte.

You're not a beer bottle if you buy one ... or are you?

Comparing companies buying each other out to human consumption doesn't always work. Monte Cristo may have been maintained as an in-house dev studio if Focus bought out Monte Cristo.

Let's wait and see what they have been up to.

By the looks - nothing much.

i am a noob when it comes to sim city becuase i want to have a city grow super fast and have nice unique buildings and not the same ones over and over again. is cities xl "better" in terms of choosing the buildings that will be plotted or is it a wonder bag like sim city 4?

Monte Cristo closed down in May due to poor sales. Focus Home Interactive took over the project and is now releasing the 2011 version.

I think the highlight of 2011 is going to be the new metro system (I had my fingers crossed for a while ). Only downfall is that you can't build elevated stations yet.

In CXL`11 there will be more than 700 different building (as they say on their homepage).

Yester I pre-ordered CXL`11 with the 50% discount for CXL`09 players - 14.99GBP

just tested cities xl 2011 ....it's very lameeeee , absolutely nothing new compared to citiesxl wtf? , the only noticeable difference it's the metro system wich is only underground by the way and the different types of street markings (english , us , french and german) and that's it. No trains , no ferry nothing. Exactly the same utilities , the same public service buildings it's all the same nothing new , very disapointing

BTW ... it is posible to "pull" the metro above ground ... just like bridge and street height can be changed "SHIFT+moving mouse up or down"

So is SimCity 4 Delux continues to be better than CitiesXL 2011?

In ways of possibilities of uraban planning: Yes, graphics: Absolutely outdated!

Theer is just no game that comes close in combining the all ways of urban transport like SCC rushhour...
If only Cities XL had more urban transport possibilties it would be way better...

I can't wait to play this game. I haven't played Cities XL yet, but it looks like a decent game. I wonder how much improvement was done to Cities XL 2011? We'll see..

In the brief time I played the game, it wasn't really much of an improvement even over the first Cities XL beta, in my opinion.

You should get the unlocker mod, It will add many new buildings to your game and make it more interesting

Man, Cities XL has to be one of the most under-appreciated games ever created. Yes, the online thing was stupid and yes, it was released too early. I waited after playing the demo until I finally bought it last month. It is a good game. It has me addicted in the same way that the Sim City franchise had me. It's fun, and the way the economy in the game works is a nice change from Sim City. It doesn't have the transit options that it should, but then again I think I'd go insane trying to add rail and streetcars into the mix.

Cities XL does give you many more options than SC4 in terms of actual building and design. I also love that with the transit you do get (buses) you make the routes as opposed to the Sim City model of just putting bus stops everywhere.

I'm very glad that someone has picked up where Maxis left off (Damn you EA!) too, as SC4 is dated and seems to be less and less stable as new hardware comes out.

It is showing me my computer's age though. Hopefully a new graphics card and a cpu overclock will keep things going a bit longer. And buildings bridges and tunnels are annoyingly difficult.

As to Cities 2011? I wouldn't expect a drastically different game to be offered to me at 50% off just because I bought the previous one, so I do doubt that much has changed (though the minimum hardware specs are higher). In a year or two I may pick it up assuming I have a computer which can run it.

Its advertisement clips and photos are so good, the game's better than others (City life, Sim city 3000-4000...) but I don't like very much, cities of game look like cartoon cities, wish new versions will be lifelike.
