Proposal 1:

The Agoras Project provides a solution to address two seemingly contradictory ambitions: the quest to be in a comfortable and contemplative environment, while benefiting from the convenience of a central location within an otherwise chaotic city. Agoras is a self sufficient mixed-use complex that seeks to respond harmoniously with the natural environment. This is provided to the resident thru accessibility to shops, schools, health center, parks and municipal spaces.

Agoras’ planning responds to site data and the natural topography of the land. The buildings are strategically located as to not block each other’s view, and all either have the view of courtyard or a view to the surrounding areas. All units are oriented towards the south, southeast, or southwest to capture natural daylight. The green terraces, elevated gardens and vertical green spaces are connected to the residences with a sensibility for the natural surroundings. With the same ambitions, solar energy and rain water collection is actively used in the complex. Also, Agoras presents itself as a central attraction for the area, including a 43,000m2 shopping mall, 14 cinemas, a fitness center, restaurants, and numerous cafes and shops. There are a wide variety of residential units on the site which appeal to every budget & family type, including 134 studio flats, 147 (1+1) flats, 179 (2+1) flats, 204 (3+1) flats, 142 (4+1) flats, and 9 (5+1) flats.

Proposal 2:

The design idea is to integrate architecture into the natural environment of the complex, rich of green spaces, trees, water and natural construction materials. All the buildings have been designed with greenhouses and terraces in order to bring the vegetation from the ground up to the sky, contributing to the image of the landscape and to protect the inhabitants health. Residential buildings have been designed in different tipologies with the objective to match the varied end-users needs.

Proposal 3:

aturated with countless new residential developments that repeat each other, what Istanbul needs is a new take on housing. Instead of segregating people in isolated towers, we propose to gather them around a sense of community and neighborhood.

Sur Yapi’s site in Umraniye is perfect to achieve this sense of place-making because it is the last large vacant site in the central city. Rather than filling it blindly with even more of the same, we propose to turn the typical Turkish development inside out.

Rather than a cluster of scattered towers filling up the free space, we propose to free the site for a generous urban oasis. The built program is concentrated in a built outline framing the central park. The central garden is like an Islamic courtyard at the scale of a park. Similar in size to the Ottoman Groves or ‘Koru’s’, it gives a real sense of nature and provides the residents with a taste of the grand palatial gardens previously enjoyed exclusively by the Sultan’s court.

The private park becomes a social space where the local residents can relax and socialize, sheltered from the surrounding traffic noise by the inhabited wall of their own homes. Not only do the residents benefit from living right next door to their own private park, all apartments also have their own private winter garden.

Rather than exploiting central Istanbul’s last remaining free space, we propose to preserve it for all eternity for the coming residents and their families, friends and guests.

Too bad BIG(no 3) didn't win(this is the second time that project loses, they tried it in Copenhagen as well)-it would have been exciting and different. I guess someone really wanted a skyscraper. :/

WOW......thats new style of constructing sky scrappers. I wonder why people spending so much money on these mega projects. In the recent environmental change any natural disaster can uproot all the initial work at any time.
