Not on me, unfortunately.

However anyone in Abu Dhabi with access to The Club (out by Mina Zayed... non-members can get in, but have to pay an entrance fee of Dhs.10-20... somewhere in that range) would do well to check it out. They have a decent (20 or so items) set of aerial photos (similar in style to those you posted in this thread) on the wall in the clubhouse. They are of Abu Dhabi city, showing its growth from ~1965 to ~1985 (sorry; I don't recall the exact date range), and are incredibly fascinating.

To anyone interested in this sort of thing, I highly recommend it!

How can you see cleanliness in a black and white photo?

About 6 or 7 photos do not load on my computer. Does anyone else see some which don't load?

The other day I was listening to a discussion about the change in Dubai. If a person who was last in Dubai in the 1960's came back now, he/she won't recognise anything except for the clock tower, Fahidi fort, and Bastakiyya.

Just see carefully the bottom of the boats, most of it is underwater. Don't they look like they are suspended in air?

I fixed the links for images 26 to 32. The .jpg extension had to be all capital (case sensitive).

These photos were taken in the early 1950s-1960s. A quick glance at them shows the remarkable development that Abu Dhabi underwent in a very short time, thanks to Sheikh Zayed, the founder of the UAE.

Not just about the oil. It has help and pushed along the economy here. But this a degree of management and policy that has played a role. Location relative to middle east and rest of the world as well. But i think he current diversification of the income of the UAE has been covered to many times.
And it has changed so much but now look at area like Trade Center and the Tecom and Marina and think about then 10 years ago then + 20 ( 2015 Whatever ) and will be just a big change as the last 50 years if not more so

Wow!
What a contrast. I mean, in a way, look at the old times, although we miss
the technology (like the net, etc) but those days, the trust that people had
the love, the peace. And now with the same technology people use it to vent
their anger, revenge etc. But great to see the times when we were not even born.
Again Technology. Nice to take a walk in the past.....

Maginificent thread, thanks for posting these pictures. It makes you realize again that the city transformed itself from a small trading village to a world class metropolis in one life time. Unbearably exciting!
