Stillwater, Minnesota

I know that Stillwater has probably been done to death on SkyscraperCity, but what would a Twin Cities area photo thread collection be without it? Such an omission would be sacrilege.

Stillwater, Minnesota

Population: 18,410
Seat of Washington County

Haha, I love the guy in the gondola! Looks a bit out of place sharing a huge river with big pleasure boats. Nice photos!

Yeah, I don't know why people want to take a Venetian gondola ride out in the choppy wake of bigger, faster boats, but apparently it's profitable or else they wouldn't be offering rides!

That, or people are just really big suckers. Is Stillwater a big resort area?

I wouldn't call it a resort area...it's mainly just a touristy day-trip town with your usual antique stores, book stores, nice restaurants, riverfront attractions, etc. It's a nice place to spend a day.

Yes, it's a suburban community about 15 miles northeast of Minneapolis–St. Paul.

My mom was just telling me that when she used to live in Minnesota, she briefly worked for St. Croix Boat and Packet, Co. She was a waitress on one of their steamboats.

Absolutely, I love exploring little historic towns in the area. It's amazing what little has changed in some places, although things here in the US are pretty "new" by European standards. Most of the historic buildings you see here are no older than 150 years.

I just realized something – I'm not sure if you listen to MPR's The Current (89.3) Jennifat, but I think this is one of the DJs, Mark Wheat!

Hey, that's so awesome that you know The Current! It's all I listen to, actually. But no, that's definitely not Mark Wheat.

Ah, okay. I guess you're right, but I know that his wife looks pretty similar to that woman as well.
