They are clearing the site up! Finally that piece of crap (figuratively & literally :P) is going away!

I made some close-up videos with a zoom lens yesterday too. I'll post them when I have time.

According to this zoning map:
http://www.stroupecondoblog.com/sear...wntown-zoning/

the area where Seattle Heights and 225 Cedar is the maximum height is 125'. How come these buildings top 200'? Is there a newer zoning map?

edit: ha, they were easy to find: http://www.seattle.gov/DPD/Research/...ps/default.asp

The demolition? Or me finding the maps? As you can see by the timestamps I posted that I found them 3 minutes later.

Demolition has to be the most fun job in construction.

Wood Partners starts Belltown apartments
By JOURNAL STAFF

Wood Partners has started construction on a 27-story, 298-unit apartment complex on the southwest corner of Cedar and Third Avenue in Belltown.

The project at 225 Cedar St. will have studio and one- and two-bedroom units, averaging 660 square feet, with space-efficient designs and built-in storage.

There will be 3,800 square feet of ground-floor retail and six levels of underground parking for nearly 200 cars.

Amenities include a roof deck with a fire pit and barbecue grills, rooftop lounge, and exercise space with a bicycle workshop.

Hewitt is the architect and landscape architect.

Other team members are Andersen Construction, general contractor; DCI Engineers, structural; KPFF, civil engineering; Prudential, equity partner; and JPM Chase, lender.

The site is near the South Lake Union medical/biotech hub, and Amazon.com's headquarters as well as the area where Amazon plans to build three million square feet of new office space.

“Despite the fact that some new residential units have been added to the neighborhood, there is still not enough housing to meet the demand created by the employment growth,” said Steve Orser, Wood Partners' vice president of development for the Pacific Northwest, in a press release.

Wood Partners is a national real estate company that acquires, develops, constructs and manages high density and mixed-use communities. It has been involved in developing more than 40,000 homes valued at more than $5.5 billion. It has a Seattle office.

Not sure how I feel about the design but at least it's a bit different from the other buildings going up.

What's going to happen at the old Carpenter's Union building? It's a shame that we lose an existing tower during this boom. Hopefully it gets replaced.
