Thanks for the update.
Looks like they aren't attempting to set any speed records with this one. |

Four levels of parking below ground at this rate? Looks like they are taking their time on this one. Maybe to time the completion better with a bigger project?

The other project is way out.
At least three common scenarios could be happening: 1. The did the demolition extra early so any delays wouldn't impact the overall schedule. 2. The earthwork is taking longer because of hazmat. 3. Details like financing, easements (generally for shoring), the construction contract, etc. aren't finalized. Item 3 can be real hurdles, but usually it's just the stuff that gets worked through, sometimes adding a few weeks. I think they have a shoring permit, which means the biggest hurdle (easy to get but it takes design and time) is out of the way. Not terribly worried. |

Construction does not appear to be a process for the impatient...

Oh, I agree - one beautiful Seattle hole in the ground, showing off our great dirt. I was wondering, with the epic deluge we're enjoying right now, what does a job like this do with all that water?

Some parts of central Seattle (top of First Hill is one) has great sand that drains really well with almost no effort. Generally speaking though sites have a submersible pump sometimes in a specially drilled well pumping water to a holding tank for settling. After settling and possibly filtration (some sites use http://www.watertectonics.com/projects ) water is discharged to sewer system (storm or sanitary depending on where in town the site is).

Speaking of the holding tank, it's on the upper right.
Two jobsites have been allowed to close Cedar Street (I think that's Cedar on the right) every day, including the Joseph Arnold. That's kind of odd. Thankfully pedestrians get to use it still. Also, that street has been a glaring hole in the repave program...wonder if they made a deal? I don't know what the repave would cost, but it seems likely that the efficiencies and faster completion for the building project would be worth a developer paying for a repave of one block. |

Another note on stormwater management is that (at least when I was last closely involved on a jobsite) the contractor is charged for every gallon of water leaving the site. We sent in monthly or quarterly reports to King County and got charged accordingly. Fairly casual reporting (almost honor system) but it worked. You can see lots more at this King County site if you're interested.
