National Nine News do a flyover of the Sydney skyline at night during the start of the bulletin, just before Jim Waley or whoever is presenting starts reading the headlines. They have done this since the start of the year with Sydney Tower, MLC and the talls of the Eastern CBD (Chifley, GPT etc) plus the Opera House and Harbour Bridge.

Does anyone know what the skyline behind Ray Martin is on A Current Affair - it seems quite low and not very impressive - it looks pretty crap as a backdrop actually.

What about The Panel - it's close and dark but does anyone recognise it.

David and Margaret's MOVIE SHOW on the ABC uses Perth's skyline as a backdrop.

I know the Panel is a made up skyline but I am not sure about the one behind Ray Martin. It looks like it could be made up too?

I think the Ray Martin one is completely made up. All low rise crap on the side of a hill,no identifiable building.

The Panels is all cardboard - but it's meant to represent Melbourne. Best cardboard skyline IMO is Seattle as seen on Frasier

The following caps are from Seven News promos aired in Sydney. I'm sure most of you (in Sydney) have probably seen these - I think the city looks great in these promos.

The latest 7news promo which started airing a few days ago with the inclusion of Matthew White as new sports presenter:

And the following are of a 7news promo which started airing back in January of this year. It promotes 7news as covering 'every part of Sydney' and it had fast-moving aerial shots of major Sydney suburbs, as well as fly-pasts of the city skyline (Melbourne also had, and still has, a carbon-copy of this promo, with the city skyline, St Kilda, Springvale, Frankston, Ringwood, and Blairgowrie shown in fast-pace aerial shots):

Ended with this clever super-imposing of Seven's Sydney news anchor Ian Ross on this glass-fronted building (I'm sure someone knows it!):

That's the Ernst & Young Building. They eliminated the signage for the promo. There is also another version where Ian Ross appears on the facade of Gateway Tower at Circular Quay

I haven't seen the new version of the news team. The old one had the team at the Overseas passenger terminal at Circular Quay with the city towers rising in the background. They used the same setting for the onw just featuring Ian Ross & weekend presenter Ann Sanders.

Also someone should try and grab a capture of the aerial done over the then booming southern CBD.

Yes the earlier promos with Ian Ross had him plastered across Gateway Tower at Circular Quay, as below:

And here is a cap of the previous National Nine News opener used in Sydney, with a flyover of the CBD:

The new National Nine News openers in Melbourne show a cool view looking down the Yarra with CBD and Rialto dominating on the left, and Crown on the left with those pylons firing along the promenade - looks shmick.

And yes the Melbourne promo for Seven News did originally include Blairgowrie, and I was quite surprised as to why they'd include that amongst the other more well-known suburbs. But I think it was to emphasize that Seven will cover any suburb, big or small. The shorter versions airing now, don't include Blairgowire - and yes Geelong is also another one shown, I forgot about that one.

Also lookout for brand new Seven News openers for all bulletins, due to start with or during the Olympic Games. Apparently they are supposed to include a 7news chopper flyover of each city's CBD. I remember Seven Nightly News used to do this back in the days of David Johnston presenting - and they seem to be returning to this. So there's sure to be some cool views in these openers.

Ok, I think the view behind Ray Martin is of somewhere near one of the suburbs surrounding the Spit in Sydney. Looks like a view from North Head.

Don't worry, we've got that 7 News ad up here too. They have Brisbane, Surfers Paradise, Forest Lake, Ipswich, Redcliffe, Caboolture, Logan

I downloaded a Seven News Intro from Perth on Friday and it features an aerial shot of Bankwest Tower at night at the very start. I cannot grab a caption of it as I don't know how to do captions of video's.

Also the National News flyover of Sydney is from 1999. The cranes behind Chifley Tower are for Aurora Place, which was under construction during the period. They still use it.

The 6pm National Nine News in Sydney has been revamped and will start tonight. The CBD flyover has been ditched and is replaced by an aerial flyover over Sydney Harbour. Jim Waley will now read the news with a live shot of the city skyline from Kirribilli including the Harbour Bridge & Opera House. A camera has been placed in the area to provide a live shot.

The Daily Telegraph has a shot of what it will look like in todays paper in an article discussing the battle of the bulletins.
