At NH-7, toll collection begins today

Quote:
Starting Saturday, all vehicles travelling from the BIAL towards the city will have to pay a toll at the Sadarahalli Gate on NH-7 (Bangalore-Bellary Road).

After the High Court on Thursday vacated the stay that was imposed by a Devanhalli court on collection of toll on this highway, the authorities spent the whole of Friday waiting for the judgment copy.

As per the order, each vehicle will have to pay Rs 25 while leaving BIA.

The Navayuga Devanahalli Tollway Pvt Ltd did not start collecting toll on Friday but conducted dry runs, to gauge the responses, when vehicles were stopped to inform them about the toll collection.

“The court had instructed us to start collecting toll immediately after the judgment was passed on Thursday. However, we wanted to get a physical copy of the order signed by the judge and had to wait the entire day at the DCP’s office to get that. Toll collection will start on Saturday because we will have the copy of order that would be made available to anyone who questions toll collection,” said B Srinivas, Toll Manager, Navayuga Devanahalli Tollway Pvt Ltd.

Associations that would be affected after toll collection, claim that the NHAI and Navayuga Devanahalli Tollway Pvt Ltd would have to face protests.

“We are not questioning the High Court order. We are just saying that it is not right to collect toll before the elevated highway, towards the BIA, is completely constructed,” said Radhakrishna Holla, secretary, Bangalore Taxi Drivers’ Association.

Members of the Hotel owners association in Devanahalli feared that their supplies of vegetables and fruits would not reach them if farmers began to protest.

“The government should make way for those who earn meagre profits so that they do not end up spending all their money in paying toll,” said Vasudeva Adiga, president, Bangalore, Hoteliers Association.

Hope atleast now, they will lay Good Road at ground level to commute to BIAL and Beyond. As such Expressway is planned for June Next year.

Bengaluru International Airport Road: National Highways Authority of India puts toll on hold

Quote:
BANGALORE: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on Monday put on hold its plans to collect toll at Sadahalli on the road to the Bengaluru International Airport (BIA). NHAI officials said they won't collect toll till the city police provide them with adequate protection at the Sadahalli plaza.

The officials had told TOI on Sunday that the toll collection would resume at midnight and they had sought police bandobust as they apprehended protests by locals and commuters.

NHAI's move to collect toll had sparked off violence last time. The collection was stayed by a Devanahalli court. Last Friday, the Karnataka high court lifted the stay, paving the way for resumption of toll collection.

"We are yet to get the court order and the letter from NHAI seeking protection," said G Ramesh, DCP (northeast ) division of City police.

Police admitted they had deployed their personnel at the India-New Zealand cricket match at Chinnaswamy stadium and bandobust duty elsewhere in the city in the wake of the busting of two terror modules. Given the contingency deployments, they faced manpower shortage for Sadahalli deployment, they added.

NHAI project director Surendra Kumar said, "Until we get police protection at the toll plaza, we will not start collecting toll. We had written to the state police for cover, but they have not responded."

Kumar said he had received the high court order on Saturday. The NHAI plan is to collect toll from those returning to the city from the airport at the Sadahalli plaza.

The Navayuga Devanahalli Tollway Limited is also coming up with a permanent toll plaza 200 metres ahead of the one towards the airport.

Can't they make up their minds?
What I want to know is why Navayuga wants to colelct toll before prject completion. Toll on NBTPL was collected only after it was completed.

That is fine, but why can't Navayuga and NHAI make up their mind on when to collect.

Heightening of another High Tension Tower will get over by Mid of October 2012 . with that the last left over Pillar work on Hebbal expressway will get completed.

At least after that, hope launching of segments for the remaining 35 spans till Godrej Platinum will pick up the required pace.

Their is no much activity from Hebbal to Kogilu cross/IMTB . But side walls for Ramps at the remaining junctions - Kogilu,Bagaluru,Vidyanagar cross, Chikkajala are going at medium pace.

Hope at least till Bagaluru cross the work will get finished before the bi-lineal Bengaluru aero show 2013.

Toll collection begins on airport road

The toll booths at the trumpet flyover at Devanahalli resumed on Saturday, to the surprise of air passengers travelling into the City from the Bangalore International Airport.

Quote:
The toll is being collected by the Navayuga Devanahalli Tollway Private Limited (NDTPL), a wing of the of Navayuga Constructions which has been entrusted with the elevated road project along the Bellary Road by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).

Toll Manager Srinivas said the collection of the user fee began at 8 am on Saturday. “As announced earlier, we are collecting user fee from vehicles coming from the airport and the toll fares are fixed at 1.5 times the single journey. Once the construction of permanent booths is over, we will collect toll at the entry of the trumpet interchange itself,” he said.

Two-wheelers, three-wheelers, tractors, ambulances, state and central government vehicles on official duty are exempted from the user fee. Navayuga officials said toll rates vary from Rs 20 to Rs 125 for a single journey depending on the type of vehicle. Similarly, monthly pass fares (limited to 50 single journeys) range from Rs 640 to Rs 4,150.

There were brief arguments between commuters and toll collectors, with few of the travellers being aware of the resumption of the toll collection. Babu N A, a delivery operator and a regular commuter to the BIA, said the collection of Rs 30 during every visit to airport was unfair. “It would have been ideal for the toll collection to begin once the elevated road project gets over. At least, we could save commuting time.”

General secretary of Bangalore Tourist Taxi Owners' Association Radhakrishna Holla said that the burden of the toll will be passed on to passengers.

A senior official from the BMTC said they were yet to take a call on whether to increase Vayu Vajra bus service fares to airport or not. “Every bus trip to airport will cost Rs 100 more in the form of user fee. Definitely, it’s a matter of financial concern for us,” he said.

‘Pass facility for people’

Toll officials said they have monthly pass facility for non-commercial vehicles of residents living in the 20 km vicinity of the toll plaza.

“Passes are being issued to people at Rs 200 per month and can be used for unlimited times. Vehicle owners will have to produce an identity proof and photo copy of the registration certificate (RC) book of the vehicle to avail passes,” said a staff with the toll office.

It appears that NHAI is building a new toll plaza for BIAL entry, close to & before the existing one (on left side of road). Anyone knows anything about this ?

They should rather have a deal with GVK and collect some hafta from them instead of creating traffic blocks near the AIRPORT.

From Google Earth and what I've seen at that point, here:
13°11'37.46" N 77°39'00.03" E

There are two toll plazas. The on already visible on the map is for HYD/BIAL-BLR while the one U/C [white colour] is for BLR-BIAl/HYD.
