2016 SUMMER OLYMPIC GAMES BIDDING CITIES
Only cities who have officially stated they will bid in the year 2005 have been added as well as those serious about bidding)

BID PROFILE AND FACT SHEET - 2016 SUMMER OLYMPIC BIDS

Bid: 2016 Summer Olympics

When IOC Chooses Winner: TBA

Bid Status: Not Yet Begun. The IOC will likely begin to collect applications in 2007.

2016 Bid Timeline: TBA

Bid Documents: TBA

* New Delhi, India
*Rio De Janeiro
*Nairobi, Kenya -- unlikely they can even afford the cost to bid
*Madrid, Spain
*Rome, Italy
*Montreal, Canada -- not likely they will go ahead and actually bid
*Moscow, Russia
*Bangkok, Thailand
* Tokyo, Japan
*Buenos Aires ---not very certain
AND...the US candidate: either New York, Chicago, San Francisco or others. New York will be the assumed candidate for now

Shortlisted:The IOC will have trouble not shortlisting top european cities.....which could be a problem if it sends the games to europe again after 2012, So they might appear very in favour or New York and Tokyo...but pref New York

so perhaps six/five cities will be shortlisted...
## - def shortlisted
*New York ##
*Tokyo ##
*Madrid ##
*Rome ##
*Rio or Moscow

new york, tokyo, madrid showdown.....

How can you consider New York a candidate right now? There was, and still is, a chance the US might not even select a city to bid for 2016. Not only that, but New York hasn't even given a clear indication it's planning to bid, at least not like LA, SF, Chi, etc. Plus all that happened during NYC bid for 2012 won't really work in its favor.

in the scenario i was trying to display i said "ASSUME"...and if u dont read...u make an ASS of U. im fully aware of where new york stands or does not stand regarding 2016 and all the other US cities...no point in trying to inform me.

however that said..if NYC bids..its still goes in as favourite...the IOC wont miss this chance...its also 20 years since atlanta...i dont doubt the technical abilities of chicago, SF and LA..but we know this is not what decides who wins....

After what happened in NYC's foiled 2012 bid, specially with the question of stadium funding and location, i think the USOC would think twice if ever they would consider NYC as an official US bid, I'd go for Chicago though, imho

Isn't Fukuoka already the final Japanese bid for 2016 yet?

I do hope that one of my SouthEast Asian neighbors would at least try to bid for the Games of 2016 or in the near future. Asmuch as I would want my Manila to be an Olympic contender,as of the present is appears to be far from realistic nor is in the priority agendas.

I think that Bangkok has already placed a team to oversee a prospective 2016 bid, and the developed cities of Kulal Lumpur and Singapore seems to be ready financially,

If KL would bid of an Olympics in the near future, and they opt to use their Bukit Jalil Complex, I do hope that they would create a new look for their stadium as it lacks appeal

CHICAGO...w/out a doubt. Chicago needs it, it is one of the greatest cities in the world so why shouldn't it be host of the 2016 Olympic Games? Rumors say that the mayor daley is planning to make another football team in chicago and build a stadium big enough for 80,000+, so that the olympic committee really takes chicago in consideration. Pheonix and Houston have no chance, chicago is 100x better than those cities...lol.

who the **** mentioned those two cities in this thread in the first place for you to even talk shit about them? Even when the typical cities have nothing to do with the thread, people tend to always say negative shit about it.

I will hope that Philadelphia gets it. Phladelphia will benefit from the exposure alot. It is such an amazing city. I think New York City will still benefit since Philadelphia is our neighbor to the south. People will come to visit NYC anyway and washington will get a flow of visitors aswell.

I think is stupid to vote Dubai and it's not fair. Because Dubai is too small and the most why because this city has no sport.

I think everyone is entitled to their opinion but i do agree that Dubai hasnt got a hope in hell of getting the 2016 Olympics. As the city grows and develops a greater sporting pedigree in the eyes of the world i can see it maybe hosting an olympiad in a few decades time.

The best chance of Middle East Olympics is from Istanbul (okay its European and Middle east before any turkish forumer has a go at me) or Cairo (though i know it too has many issues that might prevent it being chosen).

yeah well try telling some people that dubai hasnt got a chance..it just doesnt sink in...this doesnt mean that they are not allowed to bid though...im all for istanbul but i love buenos aires and argentina...and rio too and new york which is certainly one of those places we all ask ourselves why on earth the games havent been before cept for lake placid i spose...

2016 new york...if another US city bids ill support south america in buenos aires then rio
2020 cape town (no negotiations here for me)
2024 istanbul would be a smart move, but rio and buenos aires might get it...maybe return to europe (do i hear u say not again?!?!?)

a question..as wealthy as the IOC is, how strong do you think the need is for them to go africa and south america, i have my opinion on this, but what do you guys think?
