What about Santiago, Chile? Awesome city, and its safer and wealthier then both Buenos Aires and Rio I think. I have no clue wether they are planning to bid though.
And Kuala Lumpur? Already has a 100,000 seat olympic stadium and great infrastructure. Might be a little soon after Beijing though.

But now regions (e.g. Africa) who have never hosted it will maybe win, unless infrastructure is unexellent

LA's 1984 Olympics was the only one in recent memory that didn't lose money..instead there was a surplus in the multi-millions of dollars. The knowledge and know-how to put on a big show of the size and magnitude of the Olympics is nothing new and that comes from experience. What you have is a host city that would know how to run an Olympics and make it cost-effective, which is a huge factor come decision-making time. The IOC is tired of awarding the Olympics to cities that have outrageous overruns in construction costs, venue delays, and trying to make it economically feasible for once since the 1984 LA Olympics. At the end of the day, let's not forget the Olympics is a business enterprise. What business enterprise likes to lose money, anyway? It hurts your reputation as a business if you keep seeing red ink in your bottom line ...

Ummm, better ask London that question first. The already got their *third* Olympiad selected.
they hosted after a world war...NYC did not losw because of a lack of existing venues...lol, it had its olympic stadium issues amongst other things going against it...anyway not getting into this.

What city in Africa has the infrastructure to host a huge event like the Olympics? Not only do you need the infrastructure, hotel rooms, convention space, Olympic stadiums and venues in place.

If I had to chose a city from South America? I'd pick Rio De Janeiro..but I highly doubt Rio has all the infrastructure and venues in place.

since both Atlanta and Salt Lake City were a fiasco, I don't think LA will get it that easily...

but if an american city does get the games, I'd prefer it to be Chicago. At least it would be something new

Yeah. Santiago could be another nice option for South America.

But I am Brazilian and I voted for Rio.

All the Olympics mostly in recent times have been fiascos with the exception of the 1984 LA Olympics...Atlanta and Salt Lake City are not LA..that was the problem. They didn't know how to make it cost-effective.

Chicago is nice but the Summer weather is atrocious...too hot and humid for most Olympic Athletes..for example imagine running in the 400 M race in 100 F degree weather with a relative humidity of 80 or higher ..very hot and humid Too exhaustive on athlete's bodies.. Anyone who has dealt with humidity knows what I'm talking about the temperature might be 85 F but feels like 115 F with a high relative humidity.

That type of extreme summer heat doesn't last too long in Chicago. Maybe a week or two of that sort of heat in early to mid August, and the games usually start in mid to late August, so I wouldn't be concerned with that. Chicago should get it, because it's the most underappreciated city in America and deserves a chance to gain more international exposure. It's a world-class city and has much more passion for sports than L.A who has had the games already- give someone else a chance.

I've been in Chicago twice during the Summers, once when it was in August and another year in late July. Both times I was there it was very humid and hot, but was noticeably hotter and humid in August.

If it were the Winter Olympics I'd definitely pick Chicago, but we're talking about the Summer Olympics here...Its hard enough to sit outside when it gets that hot and humid. You want to risk heat exhaustion? I think weather plays a very important part, unless all the venues are built as domes or in other weather controlled environments...I don't see how its advantageous as an athlete to try to perform at the highest level and not be affected by the high relative humidity.

The best place would be a city like San Francisco due to mild climate, however that city is probably too small to host it, same with seattle.

Boston could do a good olympics too.
