Considering the crazy amounts of money they have invested in sport already I don't see why anyone would find this funny.

It'd be nice to see the Olympics in a 'new' part of the world - Africa or the Middle East would be fantastic... The way the world is at the moment, it would also be particularly nice to see the world looking at the Middle East with a positive mindset as well.

I'm not sure it has that much recognizability. Maybe bid 2016, and then try again in 2020? It would be nice in Africa, South America or Middle East though.

It's a long shot if there ever was one, but it would be nice to see someone new get it.

After London 2012, Istanbul would not have a chance for 2016.
Actually there aren't plans to bid for 2016 or 2020
Looks like Turkey wants to bid for EURO 2016 or 2020.
The next Istanbul Olympic bid would be IMO for the 2024 Olympics

It was absurd Istanbul bid for 2008 (it was a good but tho).. but it was too close in many ways to Athens2004.

Istanbul 2024.

Istanbul 2024.
They had to bid, because there is a law, that the government should bid for Olympics.
But after 2012 Bid everbody realised, that it would be better, to spend the money first in the infrastructre

Nah it won't happen. The climate in Qatar is too hot
and it would be impossible to play any sport in that sort of heat

Not really. Istanbul really makes the amount of reasonable sense to host a games soon in the region (without getting into semantics on if one includes Turkey as Europe or MENA). It is relatively wealthy, has moderate weather, respectable sporting history/culture, and a large important and historical city that that is picturesque and bridges regions which has symobolic value. Really it is one of the few cities that it would seem pretty inevitable that it will host a games eventually.

The only other MENA city that makes senes may be Cairo but it is not wealthy enough or have the infrastructure to pull a games off.
