Everything seems so far apart in Rio's video.

I think that's a way it should be. It's the Olympics, not some kind of the beauty contest Look at London's village - "just another village". But still that wasn't the reason to stop it from geting a green light for the Olimpics.

To be fair, it's hard to tell from the videos. The truth is, nobody sees the village and as long as the rooms are big enough, the facilities are good enough and it can be sold to developers afterwards what it looks like doen't much matter.

I mean, Beijing's was hardly a beauty:

I'm sure all the cities will get this right, so discussing it in the merits or otherwise of a bid doesn't get us far.

Exactly my point. The athletes loved the village; it was very well equipped and they were treated brilliantly. But since the wider world wasn't going to see it (you clearly hadn't before now), what it looked like didn't matter to the Chinese.

And whether Chicago's or Rio's look like "just another village" (as Corey put it) hardly matters either.

Well thats not something they can improve due to the topography.
The concept though is very good given the clearly defined clusters.

But yes, it will take some time to get to a certain cluster.

Not a big fan of the BRT links only in some cases but they had no choice if they wanted to make the shortlist.

yes they have. They can build the line 4 subway but OIC doenst belive in it so they chose this BRT just to show something more credible but they still got plans for get the metro to Barra da Tijuca, mainly because WC14, there are a lot of great hotels in there. Is the new richest area of the city.

In the Rio 2016 project, the region of Barra da Tijuca to home will be competitions in 19 Olympic and 13 Paralympic sports, as well as the Olympic Village, the International Broadcast Center (IBC) and the Main Press Center (MPC). Barra da Tijuca is the center of the games in Rio.

I love this division. Is perfect. The region of the Barra da Tijuca is the center. The Copacabana region is the place for sports in nature (beach volleyball, marathon, aquatic marathon, rowing, sailing...) with the icons of Rio as a bonus (Sugar Loaf, Christ Statue, Coapacaba).
The Deodoro region is the region of radical sports, shooting, riding...
And, the Maracanã region is the place of the biggest stadiums.
All sports in the city.

"Just another village" no, friend... a village with very green, in a region of green hills and a beach and a park for athletes.
I think is important to offer a healthy region for athletes, with nature, clean air ... The park of the village of Rio and the beach are a bonus too.

The Rio 2016 beach:

And, the park for athletes:

Rio offers a "Carioca Street" for the athletes, too. Is in the dramatic video of the city.
And, the skyscrapers of Rio are the mountains of the city.
Chicago and Rio offer beautiful and different scenarios. But, in Rio are scenaRIOs HEHE

Nice video, laughed at the, "huge crowds will come together to watch triathlon and marathon swimming".

Still want Chicago to get it though.

It's good to remember that architecture of the venues frequently changes after this bid presentations.

Rio promises improving itself dramatically. Very proud and confident!

We also need to consider the adaptability of the athlete's village into affordable housing after the games, which is far more important than the aesthetic looks.

The whole city of Rio is very sparse.

I think Rio would be a good choice because of its natural setting and it would be a good time to improve the city's infrastructure.

The only thing that makes me sad about Rio's project is ceremonies taking place at a non-athletics stadium, but as a consolation it would take place at the legendary Maracanã.

For the rest of the project, everything proposed is in high standard.

Actually, nowadays Barra is one of the fews places not linked to the city by rails:

- Subway connects North Zone, Center and South Zone (attends Maracanã, Sambódromo, Flamengo, Copacabana, Ipanema, etc.)

- Urban trains have a spread network throughout North Zone, departing from the city center (Engenhão Olympic Stadium, Deodoro, Maracanã, etc)

- Barra and West Zone are currently unattended

There are plans of building a subway line connecting Barra to Ipanema up to 2016, but since it depends on lot of studies and stuff like that, it's not sure whether it's going to be ready for the games or not.

How good is the transportation in Rio? If they win, are they going to build subway lines?
