People are concerned to talk about the violence in Rio. This is a sign of favoritism of the Marvelous City!

Great job nomarandlee
I was too lazy to look up everything on my own, your summary was perfect for me!

I'm a bit dissapointed by the track and field stadiums, especially comparing them with the ones used between 2000 and 2008.
Overall I'm quite impressed by the Tokyo bid, the cluster is spectacular.

Ok.. Good luck!! First of all, i said that for the indian guy who are talking shit about Brazil and South Africa, I never mentioned Chicago. If Rio loses in Sep. 2nd i just dont care wich city will take because i like all then. I just cant stand some of you guys who only likes to bash Rio, just because it is the favorite bid. I just have many americans and europeans friends but they are not as mean and xenophobics as you. I dont mind if you all think im cocky, im ufanist, you´re opinions for me from now on are nothing. Im not even respond anymore. Now, if i see some rude and idiot comment i will just report moderation.

Thing is, you're the one who stupidly claimed the USA would buy the Olympics earlier in this thread. Winge all you want about our attitude but yours has been worse in some of your posts here. Everyone needs to take long, deep breaths. It's not far till the vote and I want this thread open still on Oct 2nd.

Michelle Obama Plans Dramatic Pitch for Olympics, Jarrett Says

By John McCormick

Sept. 17 (Bloomberg) -- A top White House adviser said first lady Michelle Obama is planning to make a dramatic presentation when she offers the closing argument for the bid by her hometown of Chicago to win the 2016 Summer Olympics.

“There won’t be a dry eye in the room,” said Valerie Jarrett, who plans to travel with the first lady to Copenhagen for the Oct. 2 International Olympic Committee vote.

“I’m sure that it will touch the hearts of each of the IOC members,” Jarrett, a senior adviser to President Barack Obama, said today in an interview.

Jarrett declined to say what the first lady will tell the IOC. The stakes are high because winning the games would be an economic boost nationally, as well as for Chicago, she said.

“It will be a huge economic engine for Chicago, but it will have a ripple effect throughout the country,” Jarrett said, adding that U.S. corporations have voiced support for Chicago’s bid.

Michelle Obama is leading the U.S. delegation to Copenhagen, where the IOC will choose among Chicago, Madrid, Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo.

Getting the games would mean billions of dollars in construction, tourism, sponsorships and advertising, as well as national prestige. Chicago Mayor Richard Daley has pledged his city will take financial responsibility for the undertaking, now budgeted at $4.8 billion.

McDonald’s Corp., based in Oak Brook, Illinois, is one of the many Chicago-area companies following the bid. The fast- food company is one of nine global Olympic sponsors with exclusive marketing rights.

Appeal for African Support

In the closing days of the campaign, the U.S. is making an appeal to IOC members from African nations.

Jarrett, for example, was scheduled to attend reception this evening in Washington for African ambassadors organized by U.S. Representative Bobby Rush, a Democrat who represents a swath of Chicago’s South Side.

“This isn’t just the president and the first lady,” said Jarrett, 52, who grew up in Chicago and is a longtime friend of the Obamas. “Our entire congressional delegation is behind this as well.”

Jarrett stressed Chicago’s diversity and said more than 100 languages are spoken throughout the city because of its many ethnic neighborhoods.

“It’s a city where no matter what your race, your religion, your nationality, your ethnicity, you can come to Chicago, work hard and follow your dreams,” she said. “That’s kind of the embodiment of the Olympic spirit.”

White House Topic

With so many fellow Chicagoans in top White House jobs, including Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel and senior adviser David Axelrod, Jarrett said the bid is a constant topic. “We talk about it every single morning together as we meet,” she said.

Although the president isn’t planning to attend the Copenhagen session, Jarrett said he is still working the phones.

“Every vote counts and so he’ll be reaching out to everyone and trying to make it clear to everyone how Chicago is absolutely the best possible place to host the Olympics,” she said.

Jarrett said Michelle Obama will meet in Copenhagen with IOC members, especially ones known to have questions about the U.S. bid. “Our hope would be to be able to spend as much time individually with IOC members who perhaps are on the fence and convince them,” she said.

Like the president, Michelle Obama, 45, keeps a rigorous fitness routine, exercising six or seven days a week. Still, she is less of a sports junkie than he.

“She’s not a Sports Channel fanatic,” Jarrett said. “But she certainly enjoys a good sporting event.”

IOC president Jacques Rogge said in a conference call from Lausanne, Switzerland with journalists today that a Sept. 9 vote by the Chicago City Council in support of a full financial guarantee helped the U.S. bid.

“We’re totally satisfied of the signature by Mayor Daley,” he said. “There is no issue on that.”

In Italy we are quite sure that Rio will win and will be the host city for Olympic games in 2016.

I hope in a different way. I think Tokyo is the best choice, best venues and best clusters.

Rio is like to review panamerican games 2007, so doesn't give nothing of new.

Accept the truth though . No one tries to be vindictive. U r too sensitive to criticism. Everyone has the right to prove one's opinion and it is Oct 02nd Get ur facts right. Anyway I wish Rio good luck too.

Jobs in Rio in 2016 has the support of the President of the 'IOC Military'

Posted on 18/09/2009 at 23h41m
Ernesto Luiz Magalhães

Rio - Rio's bid to host the Olympics in 2016 won on Thursday the support of the President of the International Council of Military Sports, General Gianni Gola. The Italian defended the Brazilian candidacy and said he has talked about it with members of the Italian Olympic Committee. Italy has five electoral votes to select the host Olympic next 2 days in Copenhagen. Also in contention are Chicago, Tokyo and Madrid.

- The choice of Rio can demonstrate that the word universal is not just theory and the Olympic movement is able to make room for new continents. If we, as members of a large international movement, we intend to seek the universality, we must do something about it - said Gola, who occupies the military sports, a position similar to that of IOC President Jacques Rogge.

Your support to Rio was declared on Thursday during the launch of the Fifth Military World Games, the Fort St. John, in Urca. The event will be held in 2011 in Rio in much of the facilities built for the Pan American Games and in new facilities that could be used in the Rio 2016.

Union will give $ 1 billion for Military Games

The decision to present the design of Military Games to 15 days of the Copenhagen meeting is part of the campaign for the Olympics. The event, which costs $ 1 billion, will be supported by the Union

- This is a demonstration that, at the Military Games and World Cup 2014, investments will be ahead of the Olympic Games - said Carlos Roberto Osorio, secretary general of the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB), which noted that the Rio bid already has $ 692 million (U.S. $ 1.3 billion) guaranteed by the Union, state and county for the preparation of the event.

Osorio added that the hunt for the votes of IOC members will be given until the last minute. Starting this Saturday night, a panel installed by Bank Bradesco in the building where he ran the Le Meridien Hotel in Copacabana, displays messages of support to the candidacy of Rio

The Sports Minister Orlando Silva said that the Senate approve Tuesday, the bill establishing the Olympic Act, with data in the dossier of the candidacy of Rio to the 2016 Olympics. Among the items is what allows the Union to cover any losses that the Organizing Committee may have with the event. Another device since the release of foreign nationals coming to compete in the Olympics, provided they have the passport and Olympic credential.

I don't think Rio would bid again if our bid was defeated.

I recognize that Rio has its weaknesses, most of them not being a concern in Chicago, Madrid or Tokyo, but I support our candidacy as a chance to bring some difference to the SOG. People say that there is no reason to give the games to a risky city, but I am sure that Rio is a different rather than risky option. Our government has guaranteed tens of billion dollars in investments, and focus on a big legacy to the city.

President Obama still leaving the door open:

Quote:
Obama may appear before Olympic committee to support Chicago's bid

A presidential advisor says Obama would go to Copenhagen to lobby for the 2016 Games if he can find time away from the healthcare debate.

Reporting from Washington - President Obama is dispatching an advance team to Copenhagen to pave the way for a possible personal appearance before the Olympic committee next month.

The decision doesn't necessarily mean Obama will be able to make an in-person appeal for his adopted hometown of Chicago, which is bidding to host the Olympics in 2016, a senior advisor to the president said this afternoon.

But the president wants to make sure he has the option to go, in case he can get away from the healthcare discussions to make the trip.

Before any presidential trip, White House advance teams need time to size up the security situation and make arrangements for accommodations -- even for travel the president doesn't end up undertaking. The advance team will travel Monday.

"He wants to preserve his options," the advisor said in an interview today.

Ten days ago, Obama told Chicago Mayor Richard Daley that he might not be able to get away, because of the effort to pass a healthcare bill. But Obama still hopes to make the trip if he can do so without jeopardizing the reform bill, aides say.

Whatever happens, First Lady Michelle Obama will still go and make the case for her hometown to host the games.

The White House considers her a persuasive salesperson.

"She is regarded as an essential strength of the strategy, because she was born and raised in Chicago and her life story embodies the Olympic spirit," the advisor said.

Chicago is competing with Madrid, Tokyo and Rio de Janeiro to host the Games. The 100-plus member International Olympic Committee will vote on a winner early next month.

Chicago 2016 - Security, Poll, Protest Rally
Monday, September 21, 2009 11:42am EDT GB Staff
Font size:

The Sun Times reports a "clout-heavy" security firm will be travelling with Chicago Mayor Richard Daley, the Chicago 2016 bid team, and an "ever-growing" delegation to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) meeting in Copenhagen next month where the host city for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games will be elected.
The firm, Monterrey Security, will reportedly stand guard over "proprietary" materials, and possibly a recorded message from U.S. President Barack Obama, as well as any final rehearsals first lady Michelle Obama, Mayor Daley, and others make before Chicago's formal pitch before the IOC on October 2.

Chicago 2016 CEO Patrick Ryan said, "it's a competition that has a lot of proprietary information that each of the bid cities would be allowed to protect. People can have something new they're going to present that they want to keep confidential".

Meanwhile, according to a Chicago Tribune poll held this month, there's a split vote for Chicago's bid among the residents. Forty seven per cent support the bid while 45 per cent oppose it.

Just days ahead of the IOC's vote the protest Group No Games Chicago is sponsoring a protest rally on Tuesday, September 29, at 5:30 p.m. at Chicago City Hal

Why we have to choose Rio?

Olympic in Rio is the copy of Pan American games. People want to see new cities. Rio 2016 is too close to Rio 2007. Lets go with different cities.

Olympic games in USA are boring. See SLC or Atlanta.

Sto games in Europe.

So best solution is Tokyo without doubts. And TOjyo has best olympic clusters.

True. But generally Olympic games in USA are not interesting, too commercial, venues awful...

Japan means innovation and if you read the 2 bid books you can see the difference. But this is a my opinion only.
