One bid had to go out first, it's unfortunate for Chicago that it was them. But I don't think you can read a huge amount into it other than that Samaranchs influence is still strong and everyone expected Rio in the final anyway.

Blame the voting system that doesn't encourage voters to choose who they want to host the games right from the start. Some like the current system, others hate it. It's up for discussion, but I have no doubt in my mind that Chicago fell victim to the system. They knew the system would be a detriment going in and didn't do enough to overcome it.

Definitely a weak spot in their bid. They had some very good immaterial legacies they could have focused upon and had their opportunity to highlight those areas of the bid during the Q&A session, but mishandled that question. It could have cost them the Olympics.

I think it would be better if Chicago left Obama in the US and left only with Michele.. she is amazing, did a great job. Maybe the fact that Obama decided to go in the last days and spent only 5 hours in Denmark could changed some votes against Chicago.. who knows.. we will have to wait to see the official results.

But I don't really think that the US can complain about IOC votes. After all, the US has staged more than its fair share of modern Olympic Games -including two of the last seven Games. Has any country hosted as many as the US?
Which makes me think, how in the hell did ATLANTA win the bid????

Is that really fair when early on only a select few places could even dream of hosting the Winter Games and the nation twice hosted the Games because there was not a single other bid and nobody else wanted to host the Games?

If that does end up being the case then bad news for Rio. Samaranch seems to have the most influence in the IOC.

yeah the guy who answered that questions did not do a good job in answering. but i thought that Mr, Obamas answer was great as he cut in to put his two cents in at the end after him.

If Chicago discover that they lost by two votes they would be really pissed with the two OIC members that are absent cause they were Chicago supporters
