Hanoi Metro Project, Vietnam (incl. HQ Video!!!)

watch video here: http://video.google.com/*********?do...=vietnam&hl=en !!!

EASIBILITY STUDY FOR HANOI TRAMWAY, PHASE 2 Following an initial contract won in 2004 to carry out a feasibility study for a ... all pilot tramway line in the Vietnamese capital, in April 2005 SYSTRA was selected by the People's Committee of Hanoi and the French authorities to conduct further investigations into certain aspects of the 2004 study. The aim of this work is to enable the launch of a project which can be implemented by 2010, the date of the 1000th anniversary of the founding of Hanoi city.

The study is financed from FASEP funds at a cost of ?600 K and will last 6 months. The work will be carried out by a multidisciplinary team made up of 10 experts from different departments of SYSTRA (PLT, GCOA, and EST). For the financial part of the study, SYSTRA has teamed up with Dexia Bank, which specializes in organizing investment for transport projects in developing countries. The findings of the study will be presented at the end of September 2005 at a Franco-Vietnamese conference. This should enable the tender for the construction contract to be launched during the course of 2006.

VietNamNet Bridge - The Hanoi People’s Committee plans to start building the first urban railway routes, running from Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station, later this year.

Yesterday, the city’s leaders met to consider the report on this pilot project before submitting it to the Prime Minister. They agreed that the route would run from Nhon through Ho Tung Mau, Xuan Thuy, Cau Giay, Kim Ma, Nui Truc, Giang Vo, Quoc Tu Giam to the Hanoi Railway Station.

This route will have the length of 12.5km, with 9.6km running overhead and 2.9km underground. There will be 11 overhead, four underground and one central station in Nhon. Metro trains of 19-20m long have been chosen as the vehicles on this route. These can run at a top speed of 80km per hour.

Total investment capital for this project is more than VND10,300 billion (Eur504.22 million), including a Eur200 million loan from the French government, Eur80 million from the French Development Agency (AFD) and reciprocal capital of Eur225 million from the Vietnamese government.

“Hanoi will try its best to begin the construction of the station in Nhon later this year and this will be a work to celebrate the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long - Hanoi,” said Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Quoc Trieu.

Crazy... I spent a week in Hanoi last summer. Lovely city, but it mostly seemed like a poor third-world city to me. Hardly any cars, everybody drives his motorbike through the dusty narrow streets. A subway doesn't really fit into this, I think the government would better spent its money on other things first...

one of the most expensives things a city can affoard and look for are subway systems, and its really hard to swallow this article coming from a really poor city like hanoi

the render looks more like a railway to me, which, i think, is more possible in any case

but assuming that japan, china and korea are not that far away, and subway systems in asia are not a novelty, i would think twice about the article

HANOI | Public Transport

Vietnam's capital, Hanoi, starts work on its first rail line
27 September 2010

HANOI, Vietnam (AP) - State media are reporting that Vietnam's capital has begun work on its first rail line.

The Vietnam News said Monday that the 7.8-mile (12.5-kilometer) line will connect the fast-growing western part of Hanoi with the central train station. It will cost $1 billion and is expected to open in five years.

A report Sunday in the Thanh Nien newspaper said 5.3 miles (8.5 kilometers) of the line will be elevated while the remaining 2.5 miles (4 kilometers) will be underground.

Hanoi plans to have eight rail lines totaling 177 miles (284 kilometers). So far, five lines have been approved by the government.

The city of 6.5 million relies heavily on cars and motorbikes, with buses accommodating only a fraction of transportation needs.

Tokyo Metro interested in running Hanoi rail

Quote:
HA NOI Japanese railway company Tokyo Metro was ready to help Ha Noi train the management and staff of its urban passenger railway system, said Tadayyoshi Tohama, a company board member.

He suggested the idea to Nguyen Van Khoi, deputy chairman of the Ha Noi People's Committee, at a meeting on Wednesday with a Japanese delegation that specialises in urban passenger railway investment and construction.

I read in www.lrta.org that Hanoi is now constructing metro and reconstructing a fully new tram system. Is it right? Please give details with website, photos & planned maps.
