Thumbs up

Actually we have a good chance of coming in second after Australia. Lots of medal hopes in archery, shooting, boxing, weightlifting, and maybe, just maybe, some athletics.

Soniya Chanu wins India's first medal at CWG

Quote:
NEW DELHI: Nigeria's 17-year-old weightlifter Augustina Nwaokolo won the first gold of the Delhi Commonwealth Games on Monday when she claimed the women's 48kg title, while India's Soniya Chanu took silver with compatriot Sandhya Rani winning bronze.

India's Soniya Chanu and Sandhya Rani didn't let India down, but a gold medal would have kick-started India's prospect on a positive note.

Indian weightlifters were confident of a rich medal haul, unsullied by a dope controversy, at the Commonwealth Games.

Weightlifting has been a major medal contributor to India at international sports meets but it has also been plagued by a dope row.

Before the International Weightlifting Federation had also slapped a hefty fine, more than Rs 2 crore (Rs 20 million), on the Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWF), which managed to pay the amount in time to participate in the CWG.

I saw her interview and she is happy that she won silver but she would have like to win a Gold! Bless her! but well done to her and Sandhya Rani!

Thanks to Gagan Narang and Abhinav Bindra for getting us another gold. Gagan's perfomance was amazing, scoring a total of 598 compared to 595 of Bindra. Yet, the media seems to applaud Bindra more than Gagan with their front page news.

Definitely Gagan deserves much better appreciation.

Also, thanks to Anisa and Rahi for winning gold in the women's 25m pistol pairs and to Deepak and Omkar for winning the silver medal in men's 50m pistol pairs.

Cheers.
