I was just wondering the exact same thing. Were these photos taken on a weekend?

Since the middle of the 20th century, Detroit as a city has been in a serious decline, both economically and politically, and large sections of the city have essentially depopulated. The suburban area has been doing mostly OK over that time, though. In 1950, the city had 1,849,586 residents (USCensus), while in 2010, the Census Bureau found 713,777 people living in the city. Some more recent estimates (2012) now have the city with under 700K residents - a 62% decline since 1950.

Detroit. September 2012

Woodward Avenue and Grand Circus Park

The Hotel Charlevoix is the yellowish building below. The prick who owns it, one Mr. Sachs I believe, has owned it for the last 30 years and has failed to maintain the structure. As a result it may be leveled for guess what? Parking! Yes folks, that's right, parking. Because hey, that's the one thing Detroit seems to lack! *rolls eyes*
