if you observe the problems recently occurring nearby the Eurotunnel, than people won't even start thinking about it due to security issues.

Has there been security issues on Spain-Gibraltar border due to third country citizens? I walked across that border earlier this year and it looked pretty relaxed. The British guy barely glanced at my ID card and there didn't seem to be enough security to stop 10 guys barging through by force.

By the way that is a great trivia question outside Spain to ask with how many countries does Spain have a land border with. I'd estimate <1% of correct answers

Do you count Ceuta and Melilla as a land border with Morocco?

Now that chances of UK joining Schengen are ever dimmer, is there any chance or a project that puts both Stratford and Lille as major hubs, with domestic UK and international/French services feeding this "super-shuttle" passenger service?

A few years ago the Transmanche Metro project was proposed, but little has happened since. A few months ago the Nord-Pas de Calais region expressed interest in the old Eurostar sets that SNCF no longer needs and intends to scrap.

Eurostar e300 trainset refurbishment completed
21 Jul 2015

EUROPE: The first of Eurostar’s ‘remodelled and redesigned’ trainsets is expected to return passenger service ‘in the coming weeks’, the cross-Channel high speed train operator announced on July 21.

The refurbishment of the Class 373 trains dating from the launch of Eurostar services in 1994 is being undertaken at SNCF's Hellemmes Technicentre in Lille.

The work includes the installation of Nomad Digital wi-fi equipment, but this will not be turned on until Eurostar’s 17 new Siemens Velaro e320 trainsets are delivered. The first of the Velaros are currently in the final stage of testing, and are expected to enter service from the end of this year

Looking neat. Alternating seat colours makes the whole interior easy on the eyes.

DB and SNCF extend Alleo cross-border co-operation
23 Jul 2015

EUROPE: The ceremonial launch of Deutsche Bahn Class 407 trainsets on the Frankfurt to Paris Est route on July 23 was followed by the signing of an agreement to extend DB and SNCF’s Alleo cross-border operating partnership for a further five years to 2020.

Around 12 million passengers have travelled on ICE and TGV services between France and Germany since the launch of the Alleo partnership when phase one of LGV Est opened in June 2007. There was a 44% increase in ridership from 2008 to 2014, and 4% growth in the first half of 2015.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, SNCF President Guillaume Pepy said the partnership had strengthened the links between the two countries and two companies, with on-train and technical staff and management having learned much from each other. ‘DB and SNCF are often in competition, but we also know how to co-operate when it is in the interests of our customers and our two countries’, he said

European Commission approves Fehmarn Belt financing model
24 Jul 2015

EUROPE: Denmark’s proposed model for public financing of the planning, construction and operation of the Fehmarn Belt rail and road tunnel to Germany is compliant with EU state aid rules, the European Commission announced on July 23.

The Commission decided that it did not need to ascertain whether public financing for project promoter Femern A/S constituted state aid within the meaning of EU rules, because this would in any case be permitted as supporting an important project of common European interest

There are no Chinese high-speed trains. Only Chinese copies of German and Japanese high-speed trains.

Svilengrad is in Bulgaria, not Romania. At the Marmara Sea must mean Tekirdag. What are the services this train is supposed to perform on?

how long does a trip on the car-transporter train take (the one between Calais and Sandgate)?
how does that compare to the ferry-boat?
