Tell me more. I am excited to see a bunch of buses crossing the Bay Bridge and see them run to a city not served by three of the four agencies (Oakland) doing the Bus Bridge, namely:

- San Francisco Muni
- Golden Gate Transit
- SamTrans

The main concerns I have would be the really long lines that will take place on both ends of the Bus Bridge, not to mention the potential for leaving out passengers (especially the seniors and the handicapped) due to overcrowding, and if the number of buses deployed wouldn't be enough to handle the extra loads.

I remember hearing about how the Bay Bridge originally had a set of train tracks before it was converted to be a road-only bridge. What they should really do is convert it back and make a second BART crossing. Yes car drivers would holler - they always holler whenever road space is converted into something else whether it be bike lanes, LRT or whatever. But popular or not, a road lane is a much less efficient use of transportation space than a railway.

The problem with that: you will need to then transform the eastbound section of the new Bay Bridge (self-anchored suspension span) to become rail tracks instead of a 5-lane freeway (Interstate 80). Not to mention, the bridge in itself is one of the major connections in the San Francisco Bay Area, connecting San Francisco with the East Bay, and it is definitely no easy task to integrate a BART line through that heavily congested roadway (also a major trucking and commuter bus route). And, it will be significantly expensive to redo an elevated track through the Transbay Terminal (in which, at the moment, the rail tracks go underground instead of overground to save up space). I would wait instead for a second Transbay Tube to enhance BART's service (and potentially make it run 24/7).

Looks like Union City BART to me. Makes me want to visit the East Bay again soon... Probably Monday after a transit meeting in the morning.

Let me know when you're around next time.

Going to be in SF fanning MUNI today; riding Capitol Corridor up to SAC and back tomorrow. Undetermined plans for Wednesday; flying out Thursday morning.

Thanks for posting those videos, it's always nice to see those cab views. Gives a pretty good idea of what the system's like.

With the Caltrain it seems that the driver seems needs to sound the horn for every level crossing and platform. Does it ever get a little tiring for them?

Oh yes. If you see a guy in a gray Lacoste shirt, blue shorts, and a brown messenger bag, that's yours truly accompanying Fan Railer on his adventure. That is from Van Ness Muni Metro station in San Francisco. I can totally understand why he doesn't like riding on cars that have full ad wraps, though, even though I insisted him to ride on one to get to our next destination a little bit faster... But, third time's the charm.

Haha, if I wasn't trying to record the ride, I could have cared less about the ad wrap.

It's an FRA requirement. All trains (anywhere in the US) must sound their horn in the prescribed sequence (long-long-short-long) at every grade crossing that is not within a quiet zone.

Church Street Station in 48 Hrs. (1982)

This Muni Metro station was featured in one of my favorites films, 48 Hrs. Church Street Station was only two years old when it was filmed there.
