Quote:
As delivered, the upper level boarding doors are sealed and 5 seats are configured longitudinally in each vestibule on the intermediate level, accounting for 10 seats per car. These seats will be temporarily removed during the transition to level boarding with high platforms (when both sets of doors must be cleared of seats), diminishing seating capacity by roughly 10%. Once Caltrain achieves 100% level boarding, that seating can be restored on the lower level of each car.
this is relevant as well:

So those stations that will be altered only have Caltrain stopping?
Great plan, great trains that can be made part of that plan like that (while looking great).

When you get tired from jumping the hills you can relax that your bike is safely attached to the train, nice!

Transbay Terminal: The Grand Central of the West | San Francisco

It is more appropriate to call Transbay Terminal "The Penn Station of the West" as they are transformational in improving cross harbor transportation.

Siemens to upgrade San Jose LRT electrification
Monday, March 20, 2017

SANTA Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) has awarded Siemens a $US 10m contract to modernise electrification systems on the oldest section of the 68km light rail network in San Jose and Silicon Valley

The project involves replacing traction substations on the Guadalupe Corridor south of San Jose, which date back to the opening of the line in 1987

I swang by the area by the Warm Springs station last weekend. The station looks good to go; there were even test trains running!

But as far as surrounding development, there's nothing built up except what was already there. Lots of empty lots, most with real estate signs on them. I suspect that most of that land has been bought up by now. Only one of the properties looks like it's being worked on, and that's just digging a sub-foundation or whatever you call it.

I'm sure there will be lots of interesting new buildings and businesses there soon, but certainly not in time for the station opening...

From the Milpitas City Council Meeting, BART Milpitas is now ~90% done. (They have been saying it's 85% done for months until this week).

They are still projecting to open in Fall 2017 and are under budget.

Excellent! Can you provide the agenda and description of that item from the Board Meeting? And please let me know when their next meeting is (especially if there is an item related to BART or VTA) so that I can attend personally.

Agendas and Recordings are available here: http://www.ci.milpitas.ca.gov/our-go...and-minutes-2/

The BART items that gilly mentioned are in the March 21st meeting.

They purposely did not refer to Penn Station because it is a complete shithole with 10 foot ceilings in many places and very cramped corridors.

I'm pretty sure he was talking about the ORIGINAL Penn Station. Or the concepts of a completely new one.

I passed by the Milpitas BART station last night and I saw that they finally have lights installed and working inside the station! It was previously dark and nothing but the construction lights were up. Great to see that everything is coming along. Hopefully they do open up in 2017.

VTA announces that the BART station of Milpitas is 96.5% done and is on track to be completed by December 2017, 6 months ahead of the original date of June 2018.

Article mentions that the station will have 15 bus bays and a dedicated bus only lane on Capitol Avenue.

The garage holds 1,200 parking spots, 24 of which are electric vehicle only but has an option of adding 96 more in the future.

VTA is working with Off the Grid to have special food trucks on site.

No, it's most appropriate to refer to it as the Port Authority Bus Terminal of the West since that's all it really is.

Some photos of the Milpitas BART

Apparently there's going to be an overcrossing here sometime in the future. The red beams are not part of the overcrossing but I believe that they will be retail stores.

Both Grand Central Terminal and Pennsylvania Station were built by the "cut-and-cover" method.

When people think of "Grand Central", in their mind's eye they see the grand concourse of GCT.

When people think of Penn Station they think of a dingy underground rabbit warren.

It's a public perception thing...
