Wanaka, Twizel, Blanket Bay and Arrowtown would probably rate as my personal 'most beautiful' towns of New Zealand. I love those panoramas.

The Queenstown pano is about 7 years old I think. That suburban development towards Lake Hayes you can see just breaking ground is now finnished and full of houses. The open land between the airport and the highway was fully under development when I was there in February and should be nearing completion for the most part. They were building a massive new shopping area there.
The airport terminal area and aircraft apron is much larger now and the connecting taxiway with the runway has been doubled in width for 2-way operations. |

Queenstown would surely rank as a world class tourist resort. It would be good to see other towns across the country developed along these lines. What sort of development is happening in Taupo?

I'll be heading through there this evening but last time I checked there was bugger all. There is a plan to bypass the whole lot from north of wairaki down to south of taupo crossing over SH5.

Coronet Peak skifield to get $20m makeover
Queenstown's Coronet Peak skifield is to get a $20 million makeover, making it part of a rush of investment in New Zealand's ski industry.
The latest project, approved by the board of Southern Alpine Recreation on Monday, will include a new base building, 138 extra snowmaking guns and two extra reservoirs. The company described it as the most significant development at the skifield since its inception in 1947. Yesterday's announcement comes after a hearing this week into the Lee family's proposed $14m gondola for the Cardrona Valley, with another gondola proposed for nearby Treble Cone. Commissioners reserved their decision. In June, Australasia's biggest chairlift opened at Ruapehu's Turoa skifield - part of a $19 million first stage upgrade of mountain facilities, including an improved snowmaking system and a new cafe and retail complex. More than $60 million will be spent on the entire Mt Ruapehu upgrade project over the next few years. Southern Alpine Recreation chief executive James Coddington told The Press that the Coronet Peak development was fantastic news for the ski industry. Extra snowmaking would give more certainty, weather permitting, to opening dates and may even extend the season, he said.

I like the design of the hotel but i wish it wasn't a Hilton hotel because i can't stand that stupid cow Paris. I also wish the Hilton planned for Wellington looked as good as this.

Does anyone have any info on Macarthur's Ridge? It is supposed to be a $500 million five star health resort built by the same guy who is working on Flat Bush. The sight was originally designated as a sight for an international airport for the South Island in World War 2.

![]() Not sure. Will have to take a look through Google. It's an area that has been developing rapidly the last decade, mainly with wineries. Are you sure about the WW2 international airport proposal? Sounds very far fetched as commercial aviation didn't get any consideration during the war. Might have been a air force base proposal? |

Metroman, don't worry about it, the NZ Herald's reporting standards can be very iffy!

Aquatic Centre
Apparently it's nearly finished. When I was down South hitching from Queenstown to Wanaka over Crown Range, I got a lift from the manager of the new aquatic centre. It's being built near the airport, but I didn't actually see it.
