And quite rightly so, to think it's only across the water from me (when I'm in Bristol). Will have to visit sometime.

Very nice batch of most recent photos too!

Welsh is the second official language of the UK, all signs have to be in both Welsh and English as a significant population speaks Welsh (though none exclusively). Most welsh speakers are in the north west of Wales around Snowdonia, but being the capital Cardiff and the rest of wales has to follow. Its a bit frustrating but gives a definate sense of place and identity (the English having tried to eradicate the language in the past has meant a passionate expresion of it). Thanks for all the comments

The historic area of the bay, the city was formerly the 3 largest port of the Empire, shipping coal all around teh world. this is the coal exchange where the global price of coal (the oil of its day) was set. the first million pound cheque ever was signed here. Its a lovel building but undergoing a sporadic and slow redevelopment

Stunning, vibrant pics. I feel bad not realising how beautiful and modern Cardiff is, even though it's just across the sea

Cardiff looks fantastic, it is a beautiful and historic yet modern. Not the grey industrial city that people might expect.

Great photos! I've always enjoyed my trips to Cardiff and the city has really progressed in the past 10-15 years. It's a very nice small city on a human and walkable scale.

The civic centre around Boulevard de Nantes has always been grand but its great to see the transformation of the docks and more investment in the Queen St area.

I'm always impressed by how the Millennium Stadium is so closely integrated into the heart of the city, from some angles the upper supports of the stadium look like they are virtually touching the neighbouring office blocks, I don't think I've seen any other big stadium like that.

Great shots all round, Cardiff has so much to offer! And plenty of modern development.

I'm seriously impressed with the modern buildings, they're stunning!

What a nice and vibrant place, yet still another underrated British city.

No, as with most British Cities it was bombed. Cardiff (Llandaff) Cathedral was bombed but not badly and was repaired. It however got off quite lightly compared to other cities.

It is not as bad as people expect. Being on the coast it can be quite wet and windy during winter and temperatures fall below zero, mainly at night, but daily temperatures are probably around the 8 degrees mark. Snow fall doesn't happen much in the city centre, the snow falls around the surrounding hills and valleys.
