Gleba Palhano, June 2009:

Gleba Palhano is the Londrina's boom district. It's located across the Lake Igapó II (the one on the thread first picture), 2 miles south Downtown. 10 years ago, the whole area was farmsteads, something quite unusual, after all it's only 2 miles away from Downtown.

On my way Downtown-Gleba, looking back, Downtown from southwest:

Gleba Palhano, August 2010:

The pics start on the red spot and end on the blue one (actually, I lost the photos of the second half part of the tour):

Itararé Street:
168.

Canudos Street:
169.

Wooden-houses on Canudos. That's an interesting feature on Londrina's urban landscape. Quite unusual in Brazil, but quite common (not in the big cities) on the southern part of the country. The majority were turned down during the verticalization process. However, many survived, specially on the decayed areas:

That's a dirt road. Very countryside, except 1 mile behind me, we have the upmarket Catuaí Shopping Mall with 82,000 m² (or 890,000 square feet) of GLA (gross leaseable area), and behind it, several upmarket gated-communities:
232.

The paved road returns and the buildings as well. That's the most important Gleba feature, the mix of urban and rural. 10 years ago, it was only farmsteads. However, it's located close to Downtown and to the upmarket neighborhoods of the West Borough, and for some reason, the urban growth avoided the area for decades:

The corner of Ayrton Senna Avenue (4 years old) and Madre Leônia Avenue, the main acess to Catuaí Shopping Mall. That will be the "center" of Gleba Palhano:

The development is impressing. How many skylines does your city have #163 is wow!
The views with the lake Igapó II are nice. I like the mood of the photos #241, 243 in the shadow and the light hiting the buildings. Also, good shots of the red earth, construction site and skyline #281-283

I adressed this issue on the first post. "Little London" is only a nickname, whereas Londrina is a tribute to the British founders.

We have 4 skylines. The biggest is the central one, followed by Gleba Palhano's. Than we have one on the West Borough, where there are about 40 highrises and a forth one by Lake Igapó I (pics 165 and 166), with 15-20 buildings.

Aside those, the 5 biggest cities in Londrina Metro Area (Ibiporã, Cambé, Rolândia, Arapongas and Apucarana) get impressive skylines by their own:

There are pictures of them on the 1st page of "Norte do Paraná - 80 Anos (1929-2009)", in my signature

Taken from west, about 2 miles away from Downtown. The first two concentrations are on the West Borough. The 3rd is the Downtown's west face and the 4th is the "booming" district Gleba Palhano, which undercovers the one by Lake Igapó I (pics 165 and 166).
