Airports In Europe 2010 (Traffic Figures)

Latest Update 06 Nov 2010

I made a table with traffic figures of airports in Europe (including Turkey) for 2010. You will find numbers for the TOP 45 airports below, the numbers for more airports (rank 46-60) will follow later. I will add more numbers, when they get available.

Quote:
Explanation:
Rank: Rank in Europe,
Airport: Name,
PAX in 2009: number of passengers in 2009 in million
January-December: month in 2010

(2,5%): positive growth in %
(-2,5%): negative growth in %

Figures have been rounded up (2,515 = 2,52), or down (2,514 = 2,51).

Feel free to correct the data, or to add missing data.

Some facts:

Rank: 1-30:
  • Almost all airports in the TOP 30 had a strong decline in April 2010, due to the volcano incident
  • Only airports with positive growth in April 2010 were airports in Moscow and Turkey
  • The shooting stars are airports in Moscowa and Antalya with very strong growth throughout the year
  • The airports with the biggest decline in 2010 are Dublin and British airports like London Stansted and Manchester
  • All British airports have declining numbers, only London Heathrow has weak growth
  • Weak growth or stagnation in France
  • Moderate or strong growth in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and Norway
  • Mixed picture in Spain
  • Accelerating growth in Stockholm
  • Not a good year for Palma de Mallorca
  • Stagnation or weak growth after a great start of 2010 in Istanbul

Rank 31-45:
  • Biggest losers are Nice in France, London Luton and Birmingham
  • The strong growth of Eastern European airports of the recent years slowed down significantly

Thanks HD. It's an interesting year for European airports with those in the UK declining whilst most of the rest grow. I remember report a year or two back stating that de Gaulle could overtake Heathrow in 5 years. Perhaps?

Thank you for taking the time of doing this and publishing it.

It is indeed a very interesting year.

A lot of airport in Europe would have a perfect growth record if it wasn't for April.

I really like the growth Frankfurt and other german airport are experiencing after 2 very difficult years.

I really want to see how Frankfurt will do once the new runway is open for the winter next year.

I'm really surprised that IST still manages to grow at such a rate considering just how congested this airport is and the fact that many flights got moved to SAW.
